Failed suicide attempts

I know it is not politically correct to laugh at a failed suicide attempt but sometimes it is difficult to contain laughter, and, after all, no one died. The best one I remember was in a protest in the 1970’s in front of a prefecture. A man came there with a jerry can of gasoline and poured it on him, then searched desperately for the matches. Damned, he had forgotten them ! He was carried away by the firemen to take a shower in a mental asylum. Alright, it was something classical in the 1970’s, but the following one was deserving an Oscar for originality : a woman in her 30’s was brought suffocating to a hospital, but was refusing to open her mouth. They forced her to open it and removed with tweezers from her throat a gorgeous thong in pink cotton lace. And then there are those who are really unlucky in life, including when they want to commit suicide : last Wednesday in South France a man climbed at the top of a high power line to commit suicide. He should have died before reaching the top, but, voilà, there was no electricity on this line this day. He finally climbed down and was also sent to a mental asylum. The photo was posted on Twitter by the Gendarmerie.

Poor people. Some people just can't take a trick can they?

@JudyEv There is electricity 99% of the time on these lines, he has been really unlucky, or very lucky.

One of my relatives repeatedly refused to marry the groom chosen for her. She climbed through the window and ran away while everyone thought she was changing into her wedding gown, ready for the ceremony. On hearing the news, the groom cried hysterically and jumped into a shallow pond close by with the intention to drown himself. Alas, the water was only up to his knees... (He was a local farmer. My relative ended up being a journalist in some city and later married some successful journalist a few years later. The farmer married someone else a few months after that event. Happy endings for everyone .)

I guess he was not smelling good when he leaved the pond. Some charitable soul should have told him that it was not deep enough. There are two centuries that we have no more arranged marriages. During the 19th C they were common in the countryside. It is fine that it ended by a happy ending for both of them.

@YrNemo Not sure, nobody is forced to say "yes".

@topffer (I have plenty of acquaintances who live in the US, still single now in their late 40s. If there was such a thing as arranged marriage, would they have been happier?)

Too bad for them. It is quite funny but it's been good they are still alive. So I guess people get sent to the mental asylum hat easily in France?

they were very lucky - hopefully they didn't feel the need to repeat their attempts with more success

I'm a believer of " when it's not your time, it's not your time yet" but unless these people get professional help they would most likely attempt it over again and maybe somemore times.

a good laugh, that is true. And I think they are not yet meant to die.

Actually it is a bit funny. They couldn't even get the planning right...probable too depressed.

It gave them one reason more to be desperate. I hope they managed (will manage for the last one) to enjoy life later.
