An Abundance of Spelling Errors.

Now before you start throwing stones at me, I realize that I am not the world's best speller. I make mistakes. We all do. But I also try to spell the majority of my words the correct way. That is why it will forever drive me crazy when people don't even take the time to proof read what they write and post on myLot for spelling errors. Some words are hard to spell, I get that. Even with an English degree I have trouble with some words, but generally I try to look it up, if whatever I am writing doesn't auto correct itself. Which it does when I type in Microsoft Word, on my phone or even sometimes on the Edge browser on my laptop. I don't think full posts where every other word is spelled wrong, or unreadable should be allowed. I believe that if you are going to post something online for others to read, it should be readable. And there are plenty of people who post things that aren't readable either because of spelling or just pure nonsensical writing. I know this is going to offend some of you and for that I am sorry. I am not sorry that I wrote it, because I felt like it needed to be said. Also, the purpose of this wasn't to offend anyone, it was to say what I felt and what I felt needed to be said. And now I'm done with what I had to say, please return to your regularly scheduled programming.

I agree 100%. It is absurd that gibberish posts are allowed to remain while others are deleted that are perfectly spelled but violate other stupid non-written "rules". And then people politely respond to them as if they make perfect sense.

If I could turn the like on this to a heart like on Facebook I would. I cannot stand that certain members get treated with kid gloves because of their situation. If you cant make your post understandable then you shouldn't be able to post. That sounds mean I'm sure. But its just not fair. The same people that cannot spell or make their articles make sense also post about money all the time and their posts stay up.

@thislittlepennyearns I guess I am lost. The comments make me think, there is more going on. It is good I read them, though. I had no idea we were not suppose to posts blogs about money. I don't think, I have ever posted about money, but if the topic were relevant to me, I would have, not knowing it wasn't allowed.

@thislittlepennyearns Yup. But when I posted about what I had earned in a month, that thing was deleted so fast your head would have spun.

I'll admit that it does bother me as well. No, I'm not the perfect speller, but I still try to spell well enough. Either way, it will bother me.

@thislittlepennyearns Absolutely. Those who have spoken English their entire lives should be able to make sense. I do understand that English isn't a first language for some, and I get that. It's not easy to learn another language.

I try to take into consideration that different people have different handles on the language. But when someone who has English as a second language can manage to spell things better than a user who has lived in the US for their whole life. That gets me too. If you can't at least make sense, you shouldn't be posting things. And to a lot of people that is going to sound mean, but I don't want to waste my time reading someone's post and getting a headache because its spelled wrong.

You have a point, a valid one at that. There really is no excuse for spelling mistakes especially with the resources one has to check for any spelling errors.

Everybody does, that's not what this post was discussing. It was more about the people who continue to post things where most if not everything is spelled wrong or unreadable.

Spelling and grammar mistakes have always irritated me. Lately, though, I try to take into account a person's situation. If it is an elderly person or one who is slightly disabled, I try to ignore it. There are some posts that are completely unreadable, I just read what I can and skip the rest.

See that's where you are nicer than I am. If someone's post is unreadable it's unreadable. It doesn't matter if the person is 10 or 100. If the post is unreadable it has no value.

I completely agree! I know make a mistake here and there because I usually post on my phone and it loves to auto correct to obscure things. But I am quick you correct it if I don't catch it the first time. However there are a few posters that are constantly posting and you cannot even understand what they are saying because every other word is misspelled. I wish there was better guidelines for that.

It needs to be said that the TOS forbids us to point out errors in other people's posts. Many of the people who write here came to improve their English as they have another language first. Also, when people use the phone to write, they often hit the wrong key because the letters are so small. Then, there is that ***** autocorrect that thinks it knows what you mean when it doesn't.
