Diabetes and Emotions

I can definitely testify that one's emotions affect sugar levels as much as any type of food. Two years ago, my endocrinologist found a treatment that completely controlled my diabetes. I lost 80 lbs, lowered glucose, and found some lost energy. However, for the past two months (beginning the weeks before my father's death), my glucose levels have soured out of control. I have not deviated from my treatment. The only difference is I have not eaten nearly as much, just too sad to eat. But the sugar levels are monsters again. My emotional roller coaster has sent me into glucose drama. I share this to help diabetics understand that it is not all about what you eat. We are often the butt of jokes and stereotypical comments about food, weight, and diabetes. Don't let anyone put you in a box or shame you. Life is just hard sometimes. And the consequences are equally as hard.

My mother too has diabetes and she avoids being stressed as she says stress and too much emotions also affects her sugar levels.

Glad she has figured that out. Most don't. Wishing her the best in maintaining her health.

@gnatsmom Actually her Endo told her that to not stress out so much as its not good generally for one's health especially for her with diabetes. Thanks for the well wish. I wish you the same too. Stay healthy always!
