Sunday Service

My brother always has at least two jobs. One of them is pastoring a church. I really love to go hear him preach, but I did not get to last Sunday. Last Sunday they had a singing service. I think it is what they do when they have a month with five Sundays. What a blessing. Here again, I have memories spilling over. This is a small church but it is the denomination I grew up with, the hymnal I am familiar with. As people requested songs, one person or another would mention someone who is no longer with them and say "This was so and so's favorite". In the course of the morning we also sang the only song I ever sang with my mother and older sister. . . and the first song I ever did as a special, with my older sister, when I was about six or seven. We had dresses alike that Mom had made us. At the time that style was referred to as a "squaw dress". How politically incorrect. Dad was glad we came to church, but got upset with himself when he could not see to read, and could not hear the numbers called out. I helped him out, but he called himself dumb. When I was growing up, dad had nothing to do with the church. That changed when he was in his early sixties. He always has had a Christian attitude, but it was late in life he had a relationship with Christ. I was glad to share the morning with him.

That sounds like an awesome service. I didn't know your brother was a pastor. You have some wonderful memories and the best knowing your father had a relationship with Christ.

Dad "grew up in the Lord" quickly after he was saved. I am proud of him.

Your poor Dad. I really feel for him. I went shopping yesterday and forgot to take my purse. Usually we go together and Vince always pays. I felt really dumb. I'm not safe to be let out sometimes.

I left my laptop at my brother's house. I got the bag, however.

@GardenGerty When these things happen it's hard to remember that others make similar mistakes.

@JudyEv Today has been a tiring, distracted and forgetful day for both me and my boss, who is slightly younger than I am.

It is always a comfort to know that those we love have a relationship with God, not to say that one has to go to church to have that relationship but it is a visual sign to reassure us.

When we were young he was "offended" by some people in the church we were attending. (honestly, they were offensive in their way). After he married Charlotte they found lots of ways to serve together in their church and he really blossomed. However, he was always the kindest man I ever knew.

We sang "He's Got The Whole World in His Hands". Our little church was having a talent night. My sister is nine years older. We dressed alike and sang together.

That was a great service as people got a chance to honor those that are no longer with them

It was. Music, especially the old standards, is a blessing and way for me to worship.

It's a blessing when we know our family loves the Lord. Mike and I are the only ones on either side of our immediate family who are faithful to going to church. It burdens our hearts, we pray for them, invite them and hope one day they will come with us. Thanks for sharing your memories.

Right now we are a bit lapsed in our attendance, but not in our worship.
