Back in 1980 the film The Blues Brothers was released. Mixing comedy and music -- lots and lots of great music -- the film has reached iconic status. There are great performances in the film (I often say that watching Aretha Franklin's performance of "Think" is worth the price of admission alone), and there are some marvelous lines. Here's one of them. #7: Who Wants an Orange Whip? What makes this even better is that the late John Candy improvised it. One of the movie's set designers was related to a sales director at Orange Whip (a onetime carbonated beverage, along the lines of Orange Crush or Fanta). Burton Mercer (Candy) is an official in one of the countless law enforcement agencies after Jake and Elwood. Despite the fact that he's gonna nab them (get in line, Burton, like that line of people wanting to slap the woman having the panic attack in Airplane!), he's also intrigued by their music. Yes, he's going to arrest them, but first he wants to watch the concert. As the cops take a seat in the venue, Burton, after a pregnant pause in the action, asks, "Who wants an Orange Whip?" He looks at the cops at the table with him. "Orange Whip? Orange Whip?" They barely nod. "Three Orange Whips," he signals to one of the troopers standing behind the table. He dutifully walks off to get the sodas. Improvised hilarity. And, although the beverage company is long gone, it's fondly remembered thanks to this line.
