Cheap!

Meals in the cooperative’s canteen are so expensive for students. They do not offer student’s meal that is why last night, I and the 4 students went outside the hospital premises to have our dinner. I brought along the can of sardines (imported) for my meal. I had 1 and ½ cups of rice and one dish and it was priced only P30. I just drank water. A bottle of soft drink is worth P12 only. The viand is P15, and rice is P10 per cup. When I have my meal in the canteen, I get 1 and ½ cups rice, a bottle of 12 oz. soft drink, and I viand priced at P85. A viand there costs P50, a cup of rice cost P10, and Coca-Cola is already P20. How cheap is the cheapest meal you have eaten? The conversion of Philippine peso to US dollar is P51.30 to $1.

Same here. Our neighbor has their food business over the years and they are selling it very high. Sometimes, we go to different place to buy viand and they are cheaper compared to them and the food is good too. Unlike our neighbor's food, they have a different taste every day.

@JustBhem sometimes yummy, but sometimes salty. last night, we ate in the canteen of the hospital again because we have to go up the 3rd floor for my students to do their paperwork requirements.

At Costco, a 1/4 beef hot dog or Polish sausage on a bun with a 16 oz soda or lemonade is $1.50 US. I can have it with ketchup and/or brown mustard and top it with diced onions and sauerkraut and possibly pickle relish... they're good quality hot dogs, so this makes a satisfying and inexpensive lunch.

that is great. you get to eat the food you prepared yourself, and yes, it is cheaper if we do that

@ridingbet Well, I didn't quite prepare it myself... this is at their quick service food counter. I put the condiments on myself! I think if I made it myself, it might be even cheaper.

@ridingbet Here's a picture of their food court and prices. Looks like the soda is bigger than I thought! They do sell some other items for a decent price, but the hot dog/soda combo is probably the best deal.

@toniganzon that meal was really good. itis already considered a one-dish meal. i like to add in the spicy paste when i eat their noodles or even the Chao fan.

If I go back in time, I had cheap meals in school when I was a kid. The cheapest thing that comes to my mind are the hot dogs sold by Ikea at $1 each included a glass of soda.

Hotdogs or hamburgers at school on fete days was the cheapest meal I have ever eaten, but that was years ago. Now everything seems so expensive.

yes that is so true. imagine before, 2 pieces of White Rabbit sweet candies are worth 25 centavos (Philippine coins). now, a piece is priced a peso each.

Wow, 15 pesos for the viand! That is so cheap! Here, the viand costs about 40- 45 pesos depending as to what kind of viand. If it is fish cosido and the fish is blue marlin or those expensive fishes, it costs 50 or more. Veggies would be 20 pesos and usually I only buy half which is 10 and viand 40. I always have packed rice. I drink mildly hot water after my meal. I don't drink softdrink when eating my lunch. I drink mildly hot water after my meal. Only when I eat at Mcdo or any restaurant.

that's really cheap. the cheapest here would be 40, 30 for viand (pork or chicken) and 10 for rice.

true, but not in the cooperative. i think every viand there is contributed by a particular employee that is why it is worth P50.

Well, it maybe cheap but I wonder how the viand or rice was cooked. What were the ingredients before it was made. I wouldn't doubt that.

the rice is of good quality, the viands as well, but it is only the price that went up.besides, they are prepared by the hospital personnel so i have no doubts they are thoroughly cleaned and cooked well

Canteens in an establishment is mostly costly compare to the outside food courts because of their rent.
