Checking Out Chicks

Two five year olds had the run of my house today. My granddaughter Sandra and her BFF had a play date. Today was a PD day and Sandra's best friends mom is a teacher so instead of having her seek out childcare I volunteered to take the child for the day. In the morning we built and decorated a gingerbread house (it was about to expire) ....lots of giggles...also candy and frosting that was eaten rather than used for decorating (I see a sugar high approaching). We spent some time outside in the frigid air....then after lunch manicures for the two princesses. Just before the end of the play date my husband called us....did the girls want to see the baby chicks..... Excitement filled the air. A quick trip across the snow covered yard and we were in the barn....each had a chance to hold a baby chick. Then we went home to watch a video of a chick hatching. I overheard Sandra's friend tell her she had the best grandma ever....I took them to the side of the fence that was out of bounds. (Not quite the reason I expected to be a cool grandma! )

I am glad you have been "elected" best grandma ever. I loved when my grandfather let me handle the baby chicks and the ducklings, they are so cute.

The girls were a little afraid at first...but once they were over their timidity they had fun.

You should feel good about yourself that you are considered the best grandma ever! That's a very high esteem to be entitled with from a youngster! It's like being knighted by the Queen or something! lol My 18 year old daughter told me that all her friends like hanging out at my place because I'm the coolest dad every. Obviously, that gave me a real ego boost!

@Morleyhunt Our own kids never think we're as cool as all their friends think we are; but I guess that's just par for the course. I'm just happy that my teenagers actually still like to hang out with me; when I was a teen, I avoided my parents like the plague!

So true. I felt honoured by that title. My kids never thought I was that cool...but some of their friends thought I was pretty neat.

Sandra was exhausted....and crashing from her sugar high. I'm exhausted as well. They did have a lot of fun.
