The Empire State has an interesting history, starting with the Dutch, who built posts near Albany, the site of the country's oldest and largest state museum, as early as 1614 and settled the island of Manhattan, which was purchased for a very small sum from the Lenape tribe, in 1626. Eleventh of the 13 original colonies, becoming a state on July 26, 1788. In 1789, George Washington, was inaugurated as the first president in New York City. Motto: "Ever Upward"

Of all the places I've been to in the world, New York City is my favorite city of all time. And it's also amazing at how beautiful upstate New York is, completely different and opposite of the Big Apple. The entire state is a very charming place.

@IreneVincent I've never been to Switzerland before, but I've heard how beautiful it is. It's definitely on my bucket list of places to visit!

@moffittjc We rode a train for a couple hours, up through the Bernese Oberland from Lucerne to Berne the capital. We kept going from one side of the train to the other side to look out of the windows for scene after scene of beautiful mountains, lakes and chalets. It was incredible.

I went there when I was younger with my parents but the public school goes there in 6th grade I believe for a field trip.

@shaggin Yes, many public schools have bus trips to New York. My Latin Club Class took a bus trip to Pittsburgh, PA instead.
