Favorite "Queen" Songs #6 - "Killer Queen"

It's Queen time now as I continue my countdown of my favorite songs with "queen" in the title, and it's really, seriously Queen time. We are at #6: "Killer Queen" by Queen. I'm sure you saw this coming a mile away. "Killer Queen" was the first single from Queen's third album, 1974's Sheer Heart Attack. Vocalist/pianist Freddie Mercury, who traditionally wrote the music first when writing songs, strayed from that formula and penned the song's lyrics, about a high-class prostitute, first. The singer also overdubbed an upright, jangle piano over his grand piano to give the tune a vaudeville feel. "Killer Queen" wasn't the beginning of Queen's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame career, but it was their breakthrough hit, reaching #2 in their native England, and #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Killer Queen" charted in a total of 11 countries, hitting the Top 20 in 10 of those nations. I've linked to the band's 1974 performance on the BBC Television show, Top of the Pops. Enjoy this classic! R.I.P. Freddie. Thanks for all the great music. (Dynamite with a laser beam info verified by Wikipedia)

I’m only shocked by the fact that it’s this comparatively low on the countdown. Oh, well, let me eat cake. Gunpowder, gelatine, dynamite with a laser beam......

I had to make room for Juice Newton. Freddie had to be sacrificed.

@teamfreak16 You know that they were good if a satire magazine like Crazy mocked them.

@arthurchappell - So many great songs. I haven't heard "Calling All Girls" on the radio since the 80's. I love that song!

Without a doubt. Unfortunately, the Classic Rock radio stations over here only play "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You/We are the Champions," and this, over and over, and over, as if they never put out anything else. You never hear "Dragon Attack."

Such a great band. Too bad Classic Rock radio has decided that they only put out three songs worthy of airplay.
