Have a heart

Here in the US, and in many other places, February is a month of romance. We see hearts, and cupid everywhere. There is an abundance of the colors red, pink and purple and of course a ton of chocolate. Next week will be the school parties. At least one of our students is already all wound up thinking of candy and parties. Physical Education has monthly challenges for students. In February, instead of challenges to do exercises they are challenges to do kind things for others. Our counsellor always has a neat project for the kids. This year they are doing "kindness rocks" painting rocks to hide randomly with inspirational art and sayings. So, this morning, I am sharing with you and giving you one of my hearts. It is a free image I found online last year.

Its a pretty heart. Here in Canada, February is Heart & Stroke Month. Our school-aged kids learn about things which contribute to heart health and in gym classes they do cardiac exercises which they can use throughout their lives.

We have "health" every Wednesday where the PE teacher teaches things along that line. She is great about creating fun games to keep the kids moving. The usual monthly challenges are things like tracking your healthy foods, water and exercise. She posts pictures families share of exercising together. I believe this is Heart Month in the US as well.

The kindness rocks was huge here last year but fizzled out. I hope the kids love doing them

I think it really goes in fazes. Painting rocks was big at the end of last summer. Now with the school being interested, it will probably have another upswing.

@GardenGerty maybe Our school did it too but none of the teachers had the students spray sealer over them so they ruined in the rain after being hidden.

What a pretty heart and thank you! When I taught, the PE teachers worked throughout the year teaching students about being active, eating well, no smoking, and heart health. Our counselors concentrated on developing caring and kindness acts towards others, no bullying, etc. Your school seems to be doing a wonderful job!!!

I think so, as well. I have heard so much over these two years about positive behavior both for health and relationships.

My youngest daughter's class has an overnight fieldtrip that has her away from home (and school) on Valentine's Day, so her class is doing their Valentine's Day activities on Monday the 12th. I think we might do our own family Valentine's Day stuff with her that day too. I really like the kindness rocks projects!

Wow, an overnight field trip, where are they going? I think it is fun to extend celebrations over several days.

@spiderdust That is neat. Our 5th grade classes went to a thing called Star Base at an Air Force Base. They went for five Wednesdays. The teachers said that the curriculum that was presented covered all the required science objectives for the State of Kansas.

@GardenGerty They're going to a history camp where they'll learn about the 1849ers and the Gold Rush era.

Lovely heart of roses. I'd like red roses for my birthday, but as it falls in February, the cost of them is outrageous. I'll just have to be content with these.

Yes, it does. I have not heard of others changing it, but perhaps some of the church associated schools will.

A positive activity not associated with food. I hope it gets all of us to think of others.

I like that challenge. It makes the child think and encourages them to be nice and polite. Thanks for the heart, it's lovely.
