For the past half hour I have been doing something that I don't remember ever doing before. I have been neighbor watching. I have been sitting here at my kitchen window and just watching what is going on outside. It's not something I have ever had an interest in doing. I am not quite sure why I started it today. So far I have seen one of the neighbor fathers trying to ride a hover board on the street. He must have fallen at least four times. He seems determined to stay on it and upright. Every time he falls his son laughs hysterically. I have also finally spotted a couple of squirrels. Spring must be in the air because they are chasing each other around a tree trunk. I also have had the pleasure of seeing birds stopping at the bird feeder, dining, and then visiting the bird bath. I still haven[t seen a robin yet although my neighbor says he has. There is a red car that has passed by here several times. I think he is driving just to drive. It seems he has no place to go. Another neighbor has been waving to me each time he passes our house. He is getting his morning constitutional. Do you ever neighbor watch?

No, it's not something that interests me. I do see my neighbors occasionally if they're home while I'm working in the yard and usually we try to have a short conversation. The wife pretends she doesn't speak English and over the past 20 years has been trying to get me to learn Spanish, hey, last time I checked I wasn't in Mexico. Oh well, she's always going to do that.

Perhaps it's due to being in a new location @HazySue you've been through quite a lot since last September.

I have never been the type to sit at my window and watch what people around me are doing. I have always figured that what they do is their business. For some unknown reason I just sat and stared out of the window watching the world go by. I was just relaxing and spectating, something I have never been moved to do before.

@rebelann I think you may be right. I needed to zone into what is in my neighborhood.

i don't have many neighbors to watch in Connecticut, but if I sit on my lanai, I can see a few as they come and go.

@HazySue All I can see is the woods from my kitchen at home. Lots of birds and deer, too. I don't like the deer. They munch and crunch everything!!!

@DianneN When we lived up north we used to leave a salt lick out for them. We would sit on our deck and watch them.

I can sit here at my computer and look out the front window at the same time, so I do watch the neighbours. A lot of them "go for coffee" at the local Timmy's and carry it home. Can't be too warm by the time they do drink it, especially in this weather. And of course, there's the crazy girl across the street...

Ok, I have to ask...the crazy girl across the street, do you know her? It sounds like it would be interesting to watch her.

@HazySue Her name is Jan. She often gets into arguments with people who aren't there, and every couple of weeks the cops come out and take her away for a day or two.

@BarBaraPrz Now that's a person who wants to be watched.

I don't have any neighbors to neighbor watch. If I look out my windows I see trees and wooded areas. I used to like neighbor watching when I lived in town though.

Lucy you. We don't have a whole lot of neighbors but we do have more than enough, if you know what I mean.

I'll sit outside and watch the kangaroos but I don't have neighbours near enough to watch.

I would much rather watch kangaroos than people.

@HazySue Sometimes they're not very exciting but I guess they are relaxing to watch.

I do watch people across the street when they are on their porch but when the husband waved to me I turned the other way. He was not being nice. I watch the other way.

I have so many windows it's hard for me not to watch the neighbors but I don't necessarily spy on them

I think there is a difference between spying on and watching the neighbors.

I do neighbour watch ...usually on a Sunday morning when I am at the computer and I gaze out of the window ... I see men washing their cars and children playing ....sometimes people walking their dogs too.

We have 30 apartments in our circle, so all we have to do is look out the kitchen windiw or step on the porch and we see the neighbors doing stuff. So guess we do, but not purposely. Unless there's emergency crews out there

Having an emergency crew out there is the best reason to neighbor watch.
