New words!

Earlier I posted as an aside about not just trying to fit in your 'word of the day' and I am afraid someone may have misconstrued what I was saying so let me clear this up. Learning new words and their meaning, uses, and origins is wonderful especially for a writer and doing so will always expand your knowledge and understanding of language. What I was warning about is trying to pound the new word into writing just so you can use it and sound smart but this leads back to a rule of writing; know your audience. Words must be picked based on how they can show what you want in a story but as a reader nothing sucks the life out of the flow of a story than having to pause to look up a word. Please learn new words and equally important please use them when they fit best.

I heard somewhere once that when you hear a new word for the first time, you'll most likely hear it again in the next 24 hours. And for a lot of people, if you think about it, it's probably happened.
