Once upon a time

I was young. When I started working for the State I was the next to the youngest person in the office and was only older than the youngest by a couple of months. Well, you kind of expect this to happen when you start a job. I got another job in another area and was, once again, the youngest, the actual youngest this time. There wasn't a lot of turnover in this unit, so I remained the youngest. But change happens and I was legislatively transferred to another agency - same job, different agency - and I was suddenly the oldest in my little section and like the 4th oldest in the unit. Ah... what happened here? Now, lets flash forward a decade and a half or so. My now wife had fallen and broken her hip, and it was her little great-niece's birthday. She asked if I would go out, so I could tell her about the party and deliver the presents. I'm hanging out with the people and there are the two grandmothers. AND... I realize I'm older than both of them. That made me the oldest person at the party. Heck, even if my wife had been there, and she's the older sister of the one grandfather, I'd've still been the oldest. Then, Monday night we joined a friend and her husband and a few other of our friends to celebrate the friend's daughter's 27th birthday. And I'm the oldest person at the table. I felt a bit sorry for the daughter, I mean, none of her friends came, just us old folks, but she's cool like that, happy people showed up at all. Still, I have to say, when did I get so old?

It happened to me.I was once the youngest in my colleagues without that much responsibility. I hate to be the person who must handle more responsibilities because you are the older one.Everybody are expecting you to be mature enough to lead the younger ones.I wish I can be that young again.

oh, I wasn't the supervisor, so nobody expected me to be responsible, however, I as also the one who had to get on the floor to do stuff with the computers, because I was the only one who knew anything about them in that last job

@ElicBxn I think it's not about superiority but about seniority. If you are the older employee, especially if you had been at work for a long time, people will have more expectations from you.
