I am a Valentine's Day Grinch

I am not going out to eat out today and fight the crowds for meals that have been overpriced. I am not buying a card for my husband telling him how much I love him, he already knows that and I love him every day. I find Valentine's Day to be a joke. Seriously, why should my husband feel obliged to get me chocolates, roses or a very overpriced card? He shouldn't and I told him many years ago to stop, I have everything I could possibly want or need. I know that many people love Valentine's Day and that is most assuredly their right but I will not be joining them. I shocked my husband this morning by wishing him Happy Valentine's Day I am sure he had no idea that it was Valentine's Day lol

Every day is Valentine's Day for us, but I can't stop my husband from being romantic. We've been celebrating every year since we first met, and it's our thing. This year, we are going to see a regular priced movie, dine in an everyday type Italian restaurant, and attend a cocktail party here at our condo at the pool. The weather is perfect for it. We exchanged gifts this morning, which in my book, are always fun to give and receive.

lol Honestly, buying me anything stresses out Al, why would I do it to him!! He is one of the clueless men, sweet as all get go but clueless!! lol I am glad you will celebrate but we eat out almost every day so nothing special about that for me. I think I will just go to Homegoods and buy something lol

@BelleStarr Lol! My husband buys me gifts all the time just because he thinks I'd like it. He has great taste, too. Now, I need to look for something to wear today that will go with the necklace he bought me. Wish me luck. Most of my clothes are in CT! We also eat out almost every day, but today is definitely a no cook treat for both of us. Hope you find something special at Homegoods and Happy Valentine's Day anyway!

Luckily I have no one to wish anything this day except for my cat Sid and he could care less about Valentine's but if you like to see I did have him wish everyone a Happy Valentine's on his blog. I agree with you about the expense and I remember great homemade Valentine's when I was growing up.
Wishing you all animals and hoomins a Happy Valentine’s Day from my kitty heart to yours. Sid quote: When you love someone always be there for them.

@BelleStarr glad you liked this. Yes, Sid is also a character and knows it. The looks I get from him when he thinks mom is not playing with a full deck are priceless. So he and I ventured into the blogging world together.

I don't object to those who wish to celebrate and indulge in chocolates, flowers or gifts but for me, Valentines Day is just another day. So far I started me day with a doctor appointment so at least i got a smile from a handsome young man

We don't celebrate it much either, we did take my daughter in law and the kids out to the Chinese restaurant for dinner thought. It wasn't busy at all and they even had a sale going on. It was a nice night out

A husband doesn't have to get anything for his wife. But it's a nice gesture. Sure, he should show his love, get flowers and maybe a gift throughout the year and not just on V Day; but why not on V Day as well? I don't care for a gift on V Day. But I want to go out to a fine restaurant to celebrate. And I wouldn't mind flowers. Doesn't have to be an expensive huge bouquet. Just a few flowers will do.

The thing is we pool all our money and we dine out 6 or 8 times a week, it is not a special event for me. We are going on a cruise on the 25th I guess that is our Valentine's gift to each other. But I understand that I am the exception, not the rule. Have a lovely dinner out.

@BelleStarr We ended up going to an Italian restaurant close to our house. It didn't have the atmosphere I was hoping for and I wouldn't say the food was to-die for but I still had a nice time.

Its like there are a lot of Holidays over here that I don´t care too much for either. I don´t identify with a few of them mainly because I was not born here. Wishing everyone a good evening ahead all the same.

@BelleStarr That´s right and they are holidays that are more like parties than anything else not much sense felt in them at all. Not that its bad to have parties but way too many holidays here yes.

Understandable and really they are created holidays that don't need to be celebrated.

Valentines never meant anything to me either until I was dating my husband. He is such a romantic, and not just for that day, but he loves any excuse to be romantic and is such a lover of this day. I do like to send our son a card, because although it isn't a romantic love, it is the reason for our being, and that is love. His card arrived today, his wife texted me and thanked me and told me it was perfect. I teared up, showed it to my co-worker, and told her that is why we have sons to begin with-the daughter-in-laws that they'll give us! A little later our son texted and thanked me for it, and I knew it she was behind that.

Valentine's Day passes my back bottom -- to express it politely. What annoys me most is that it has no tradition outside English speaking countries but that it is steadily creeping in favoured and sponsored by business. The same is true for Halloween.

I guess I won't wish you a good evening, then. I did make little gingerbread heart cookies and bought a little bar of chocolate but its not a huge splurge over here. I think hubby bought a carnation or some such from work cause most years he does- the folks there get carnations cheap then sell them and the money goes to a charity.

My man and I don't celebrate it either. We go on dates and buy each other little gifts throughout the year. This year I was cheesey and bought my daughter one of those huge purple teddy bears. I couldn't help it the bear was so cute haha. I don't blame you for not celebrating at all!

Valentines should be every day. We do not do gifts and cards. I do not go to restaurants on Valentines or Mother's Day as it is too crowded. We had a "pre valentine" special occasion dinner and we shopped together in a chocolate store.

We can make everyday a Valentine's day. We can give cards, flowers and chocolates any day. It's a special day to spread love not only between lovers but to all people we meet. It's very commercialize but it's really a happy day
