Being a Nurse and a Teacher

Before I became a teacher, I was once a nurse. Until now I am still a registered nurse, by profession but not by passion. Long ago, my parents wanted me to take Nursing course to land on a high-paying job. It wasn't my choice, but theirs. Since I was an obedient daughter, no matter how unhappy I was with their decision. Well, I graduated with the Bachelor's degree in Nursing but I never wanted to work in the hospital, even if I passed the license exam. Now, I am a teacher, and happy to be one. I also took units of education course and got a license to teach. I am happy and contented even if the salary is just enough for us to get by, and sometimes more than sufficient. Have you had moments when you feel like doing something but decided not to do it because other people are opposed to the idea?

My mother was also a nurse first and then became a teacher. She worked as a nurse for some years and then studied to become a teacher for home economics at a professional school. Later she found her dream job. She could combine nursing and teaching. She taught at a school for nurses.

She must be an amazing woman. They say nursing is caring, and nurses are known to be caring, understanding and have strong ability to empathize with their patients and the significant others. So, you could just imagine if a nurse becomes a teacher, she must be the inspiration to her students.

@galileo2008 Nurses can also be very strict because they know what is good for the patients. Not all patients appreciate this. :-)

@MALUSE That's true! Most of the patients are irritable and don't obey their nurses maybe because they don't feel well. That's when the patience of the nurse comes in. Haha!

Thats good that you are doing what you love! Passionate teachers are the best. My parents forced me to go to school for architecture , I hated it! I didn't know what I wanted to do and tried different majors until I discovered business. I settled for an Associates but I plan to go back to the university for a Bachelors.

You're so brave for trying different majors and I commend you for that. We gotta keep trying until we find the right one for us and it's never too late for that. Thank you for sharing.

Do what you love. You followed your heart, and there is satisfaction. Many people are forced to do what they do not love out of economic necessity and pressures from other people. You are fortunate to change course and really pursued what you really love to do. In my case, I knew from the beginning that I love computers and career in this field. But for whatever reasons, I settled to Electrical Engineering. Yet, I was never happy with that work, and so i quit and instead pursue a business related to computers. I think this is a common denominator for everyone. We really must do what we love to feel happy with our work.
