I am doing a countdown of my favorite record producers, the people that make my favorite music sound like it does. We begin with #10: Rick Rubin. Rick Rubin is an eight-time Grammy winner that MTV once called "The most important producer of the last 20 years." He was co-founder of Def Jam records, founder of American Recordings, and once served as co-president of Columbia Records. He was instrumental in making hip hop popular in the 80's, and is responsible for Johnny Cash's classic cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt." Rubin's production resume is as long as your arm. If you were to read the list, odds are you would probably going to find something you like. Notable credits include License to Ill by the Beastie Boys, Raising Hell by Run-DMC, Reign in Blood by Slayer, Electric by The Cult, Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers, American Recordings by Johnny Cash, Taking the Long Way by The Dixie Chicks, and Audioslave's self-titled debut. And I didn't even mention albums by bands and artists such as LL Cool J, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, or Public Enemy. Or songs by Adele, or Lady Gaga, for that matter. Did I mention that he did "Hurt?" You should be able to see where I'm going with this. This guy is really, really good! (King of rock info verified by Wikipedia)
The first single released from the album 'Electric'.

How versatile for him to traverse from the Cult to Dixie Chicks.

If nothing else, he took a "has-been" (Johnny Cash didn't have a record deal...let me repeat that, JOHNNY CASH didn't have a record deal) and made him infinitely cool.

Unfathomable. That one stroke of genius introduced Johnny to a whole new group of fans.
