When my cat is very bad I tell her not to come near me the rest of the day. If she continues I will try to talk to her and convince it is not nice to be that way and that she can act better than that. She may be good for several days and then she may act bad again.
So, how do you punish your pets when they do not act good?

I gave them a good talking to. They would slink away from me when I did, knowing they had done wrong. Usually with their tails down, not wagging at all. Then a short while later I would call them to me and they would come happily, tails wagging and I would love em up again. I must say, I only had one dog at a time. I just included both of them in the answer.

I clout her with a little force and take her and show her the offending action/ mess. And make sure that she has an inkling by tone and body language that she did something wrong. I keep repeating 'Bad Kitty" until she meows in inquisitive intelligence. All my cats are hugely intelligent! Then I make sure I don't leave things lying around where she can repeat the same mistakes. I don't think this is effective though because cats are cats!

I agree no harm in trying Gitara. I continue to try and talk to Sophie and try to explain she has a home with me but I guess it does not sink in.

@Hannihar Sometimes and sometimes not! Cats are cats! But there is no harm in trying, right?

When I owned a cat I just used my voice if she was not behaving properly. A quiet soothing voice to show your affection and a louder one for when she misbehaved.

@Hannihar I think cats can really understand our different voice patterns Hanni.

I usually talk to my dog and ask him not to do it again. But sometimes he will be just sneaky.

I use to try and use a little spray bottle of water when my kitty got up on the counter - table. I don't think they need up where food is prepared.
Only problem is, my cat likes it and would sit and purr. Like seriously? So I'd just say no and after a lot of times of just picking them up and putting them on the floor, they got the picture.
What exactly is she doing "bad"?
I have seen way too many people who get mad and slap a cat for attacking their hand. Yet, they use their hand to play like a toy with the cat. So they only trained the cat do to that...
So my suggestion is to use a toy, and never the hand or feet, to entertain a kitty.

She was left to die at 2 days old Robin and a family found her and kept her for 3 months. I did not know anything about her. It was hard to get anything out of the lady that said she was allergic to her so could not keep her. Also, I do use a spray bottle.
