Another year gone by. Time for the Daytona 500 again

It is amazing how fast the years go by and we really know it when the different sporting events are taking place. This is the Daytona 500 weekend. Seems like it was just here last week. Luckily the weather is great for these thousands of people here in Florida to watch this event. Besides the different races this weekend, there are so many activities going on to keep the families busy. My husband and I use to have a big RV and went to so many of the races and park on the grounds and socialize with many other fans. I miss those days. We have met so many people and have kept in touch with them for many years. Nothing tastes better than eating foods that are cooked out on the barbeque.

Must be a great experience to watch. Those RV's are like a home from home and nice to meet up with like minded people!

@ramapo17 Yes I remember reading about your camping trips previously. It is a shame you had to get rid of it but I can understand the reasons why, Petrol is a lot cheaper in the USA than it is here in England It is double the price here in the UK but then our distances we generally travel are not as great as in the USA. Those memories can never be taken away from you or your grand children. It is something they will remember well into adulthood.

We always took our RV's to the races and had many parties in them and outside of them. I miss those days.

We had RV's for many years. I bought the first one after my husband had a heart attack and couldn't get out much. I always wanted one and he never did so I took advantage of the situation and went to talk to a salesperson. I wanted one since I saw the trailers on I Love Lucy years ago. I took my husband out for a ride and just happened to pull in the lot and the salesman knew I was coming and had them ready for me. We bought a 24 foot then and years later got the big bus one that was 35 feet. When the gas prices went so high we got rid of that and never got another one. I still miss it. We have so many great memories of taking the young grandsons with us and going to the race track.

It is fun. We are meeting a couple that we met at the Pocono Race Track over 10 years ago. We all worked at the race track for the different races and we kept the friendship going even though we moved away. They still live in New Jersey and still work at the track.

@JudyEv You are right. My husband saw them 2 years ago when we went to New Jersey but I stayed with my daughter and grandson. I didn't want to be out in the heat so long and those races lasts hours.

It couldn't be better. I hate the heat and it gets very hot and humid here in Florida.

@ramapo17 The mild weather, low humidity, gentle ocean breezes and warm sunshine have made this the perfect weekend here in Florida!

@moffittjc The weather could not have been any better for the race today. We have friends that are down from New Jersey and we worked with them at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. We are planning to get together this week before they go home.

I forgot that the Daytona 500 was this weekend, and I drove through Daytona on Friday night heading down to West Palm Beach. We stopped in Daytona to grab a bite to eat. Everything was so crowded and the lines and traffic was horrible!

Maybe by now you will pay attention to the things going on around here. Maybe you are spending to much time at Home Depot.

My favorite race is the Indy 500. I try to remember to watch it. Just like my other favorite race is the Kentucky Derby, which I usually forget, but I have caught it a couple times. Yes, race season is here. I agree, nothing like eating foods cooked on a barbecue.

You are right and being we moved to Florida we can cook outside any time. We actually use to cook outside in Pennsylvania in the winter and sometimes with snow on the ground. The barbeque grill was on our deck so it wasn't to far away in the cold.

@ramapo17 I've seen people grilling in winter. Not often. I've never done it.

Hahaha. I think you are teasing but in case you are not, it is a car race. One of the biggest in the year.

It is wonderful that you and your husband have that tradition of enjoying the Daytona 500. You are so right that the years go by too fast.

I never liked car racing until I met my husband and I use to think he was crazy watching it on tv for hours. When Home Depot sponsored a driver, Tony Stewart, many years ago I got into it. I worked for HD for 20 years. Since that time we started doing volunteer work at the Pocono Race Track and did that for many years. We met so many drivers and had lots of fun and have made some friends for life.

@ramapo17 - Horse racing is an expensive business, since the majority of horses are losers!

It is a shame Dale Earnhardt had to retire due to concussions. That family was synonymous with the Daytona 500. P.S.- went to Daytona Beach during college spring break. Hey it was the thing to do! Loved driving on the beach too

@dgobucks226 I think Dale retiring when he did was also due to his new wife.

@dgobucks226 Tell me about it. I would rather have it cooler as I hate the heat. My husband likes this, I don't. But, after spending time in New Jersey for Christmas holidays I was happy to get home. It was under 10 degrees most of the time we were there.

@ramapo17 I agree. I am sure this was a factor too. Florida has been getting some wonderful warm weather. I just got back and we had 80degrees for the whole week I was down.
