Do we really need Black Power and White Power, etc? Is Affirmative Action Helpful?

I am white, and I have been discriminated against by minorities. I have also been loved by them. It is an individual thing. When Affirmative Action started, I think the purpose was to help those who were not being fairly represented. Times have changed. We have more fair representation than ever. That does not mean we don't have still have racism and discrimination. We always will because it is still in the heart of some people. However, to meet quotas, people hire those who are not qualified. Being a minority, but not by skin color, I don't want to be hired if I am not the best person for the job. Do you really think Black Power and White Power are appropriate? Either it is not said or avoided, but most white people will not address Black Power or see it in a negative light. However, when you say White Power, people think of the KKK? What do you think about all this?

It's a topic I stay away from. I'm not racist, and I hate when people get in my face with it.

It's an individual issue. It might have something do with the way people were raised. My Mother had some of the nicest friends of other races. Some people of my own race have treated me horribly.

@MsBooklover The city I grew up in didn't have any other races. We were an all white community. Now, there is a mix of many different cultures and races.

@just4him When I was just a toddler, I lived in a big capital city that was mixed, but everyone my Mother and associated with got along.

I'm not American so I don't understand most of the politics and struggles happening there. I wish though there was no hatred and racism. That's what brings up all this talk of white power and black power in the first place. I believe the world has not seen the real potential the American people can deliver and all because America is divided.
