Snow peas going strong.

In spite of the freezing temperatures we've had the last couple of nights, my balcony snow peas are going strong. There are about five peas almost ready for harvest, and some blossoms that will turn to peas soon. Surprisingly, my tomato plants are also doing OK, and I see a couple of tomatoes out there, one of which is turning red. I think of tomatoes as a warm weather plant. Do you have anything growing right now? When will you do your Spring planting? I'm thinking of starting some corn at the preschool in Berkeley, where it never freezes.

Yes I do, I have Tomato plants with blooms, I pollinate them, bell peppers and eggplants, tons of basil, garlic and cabbage plants. I write weekly and show off my plants in my blog. Here are a few mater plants.

Where are you? Last year I grew some green chillies, but the birds killed them all.

Just my houseplants so far, although I did pot a bit of chives in the fall. They're in my kitchen and are a couple inches tall. I'm thinking of starting some tomatoes.

The next week will be the coldest of winter, this is what they have announced. Nothing is planted yet. We never plant anything before mid-April, it's time wasted.

@TheHorse I am checking the weather forecast. The first three days of the next week the temperature should be in the range of 23 F (-5 C) to 35 F (1.5 C). If I can, I do not even go outside.

@LadyDuck Yep, that's colder than we get here. People get excited if the low is 28 F (about -2 C).

I think here in PA it's still to early to plant indoors. Usually once I transfer things outside I wind up killing them

@TheHorse Hot. 26 to 32 degrees celsius. Let me see, tomatoes, chillies, green vegetables, those are what I usually try. I had succeeded with a type of squash out here. :)

I gave up on growing things here in Florida. The plants always seem to dry up and turn black. I used to grow lots of stuff in NY state but only kill plants here.

My kumquats got frozen during a week when we had snow, but now that I've checked them they still seem ok. I can't figure out how something can freeze and then still grow.

I heard on the news today that a thin coat of ice can be good for grapes (It insulates them, or something like that). But I'm not sure if that applies to your kumquats.

I guess I need to start figuring that out. We did really well with tomatoes last year, but our peppers and cucumbers didn't grow. I'd like to grow some lettuces too.

You took me back to a memory years ago We had gone on holiday and my husband's younger brother was keeping house. When we returned we noticed the window next to our entrance door had a broken glass and through that I could see ripe tomatoes on our plant. There were none when we left

It's interesting to see your snow peas growing on your balcony. I'm thinking of planting some flowers and veggies in pots on my deck this spring.
