I just want a cup of tea woman!!!

Kettles! Ok, when is there officially enough water in a kettle to boil it up for a cup of tea? Is there a correct amount for just one cup? As you well know we Brits like a cuppa and the kettle is on and off all day. The quicker you want your tea the less water you need in the kettle so it doesn’t take so long to boil. Because of this constant use of the cheaper plastic kettles they don’t last longer than a year and eventually fuse somewhere. My mother’s kitchen across town is full of old plastic kettle in their boxes that should have been thrown away years ago. Women love buying new things to replace old things but they never throw the old things away! I think manufacturing heads clocked on to this in the 1970s and decided at the annual Bilderberg meeting that from now on in we will make everything out of plastic so it doesn’t last so women buy even more new things made from plastic. Before that stuff last forever, not good for business. They were right. As guys, of course, we are on to this and will try to make things last by trying to fix them. I will have the back off the kettle to make sure it’s something that I can’t fix before I bin it. Normally things that get near water eventually short out and it may only be a fuse. At least it’s a nice feeling for blokes when they fix a household item and so don’t have to by a new one. Anyhow, back to the kettle and its plimsoll line. Wives, moms and girlfriends will publicly nag their other halves or kids for boiling the kettle with not much water init but you can bet your mortgage they do the same when no one s looking. Has anyone really burnt a filament out if it’s above the water line? It’s not the Bloody China Syndrome! But women nag like crazy when there is not much water in the kettle. It’s like when they knock an ornament off the shelf and guys just ignore the crash and don’t make a comment, even if it’s one of those sports trophies we still proudly display that are guys last remaining trinket of the male ego in the mid life years. But God forbid if man knocks something off the shelf. You are a clumsy so and so and all the rest of the abuse. Men learn very quickly in a relationship that women can pretty much do anything wrong in that relationship but men cant. In fact I would go as far as to say that they want men to do all the hard stuff around the house so they can wind you up if you mess it up, forgetting the fact they can’t do it! https://www.capitalfm.co.ke/lifestyle/2017/03/03/here-are-some-13-reasons-why-some-women-n

I don't have a kettle of any sort and rarely drink hot drinks at home. When I do I put a cupful of water in my smallest pan and stick it on the gas hob. I'm pretty sure per kwh (in the uk) gas is cheaper than electricity so if you have gas just do that...quicker and cheaper!!!

I read a French article about this. Although the gas is cheaper, an electric kettle is more efficient in terms of cost, it is about half of the price of the gas to boil 1 l of water in a 1 kwh kettle. Also, more the kettle is powerful and more the difference of cost between gas and an electric kettle decreases : a 2.5 kwh kettle is less efficient than a 2 kwh kettle, itself less efficient than a 1 kwh kettle. More you boil faster with electricity, and more the cost increases.

@Mike197602 I also worked on the subject. Induction cooking is also more interesting than gas for things not needing to stew, like a steak or sausages. And it is faster. I bought a cheap induction cooker in a discount shop and I am very satisfied of this purchase.

@topffer I'm just about making ends meet financially on a low paid job so am interested in any money saving type of thing. As I don't drink hot drinks much the topic itself isn't an issue for me as such...I'm just trying to research the best prices/types/appliances to save money so thanks for that information Different sites say different things so it is hard to know exactly what is the best thing to do. "Because gas is cheaper than electricity, it works out slightly cheaper to boil water on a gas hob than using an electric kettle, as long as you are boiling just the quantity you need and switch off the hob as soon as it has boiled." Which is a very well respected and trusted site in the UK and if you get Which approval for your product it is a big deal so I tend to use it a lot.
Save money on electricity in your kitchen. Follow top tips from Which? on how to save energy - and cut your bills - using your fridge, kettle and tumble dryer.

I"ve never nagged anybody.. My mom was such a nagger and I heard my dad told here that several times, I swore I'd never be one. We use a metal kettle and I don't have any idea how much water is in it whenever I ask our maid to prepare my green tea.

I have a four-cup “coffee maker” that I use to make my tea at home. At work we have a kettle that heats water quite quickly. That’s good, because I will usually drink 4-5 cups (and I only work four hours a day!).

I use my Keurig for my teas. I sometimes use my metal tea kettle every now and then. Maybe you should get a metallic one. Sorry she's so bossy.

My electric kettle isn't plastic, but stainless steel. I also have a kettle that can go right on the burner too.
