Bedbugs

I usually am a clean person who takes extra care of my clothing and apartment. I also expect that of others. But I had a rude awakening when paid a visit to my auntie. She is a widow and has about 3 of her children living in the house while the others have left for the city. On my visit I was given a room of my own. But it was a room I would later regret sleeping in. I was attacked by bedbugs at night. When I woke up in the morning I had swellings all over my body. I still wonder how I was able to sleep through that night. I cut short my visit because I was afraid of the bedbugs. I didn't tell her about it. I didn't want to embarrass her. But I will never sleep on that bed again. The experience lives with me till today. Have you had an experience with bedbugs?

I recall having experience with these bed bugs when I was a child! Thereafter neither I experienced about them nor heard about them ! I am not sure but I think we don't have bed bug problem anymore in India! Thanks dear @mydanods! God bless!

Wonderful that India has exterminated bedbugs. I wish I could tell my auntie how to do so. A visitor wouled not be kind to her.

@AKRao24 I will send her a text message. I didn't want to make her feel embarrassed like she couldn't take care of her house well or something like that.

You should tell her. She might be horrified but it is better to know. I visited someone who had them. They came from a hospital where someone worked. They are a nightmare to get rid of.

@mydanods I know she will want to get rid of them. Tell her that diatomaceous earth helps with that and other crawly things too.

@mydanods I am not sure what it is, a special kind of earth. It comes in bags. I bought some at Walmart but I am sure you can get it other places too. You sprinkle it around where you have seen crawling things. Just don't overuse it. It clogs the vacuum cleaner and is hard to clean up. They walk through it and it kills them. I live in Florida and it is full of bugs of all kinds. If you are worried about bedbugs, make sure whatever you use on them is labeled for killing them. Some pesticides don't.

No thank god I have never seen or been around bedbugs but it is a huge fear of mine. I think your aunt should have warned you about the bed bugs before you stayed there. They are easy to take home to your own house on your bags etc.

@mydanods She shouldn't have let you stay and it's pretty obvious the place was infested for you to be bit so bad. I would have told her and let her know you were bitten up so bad and she needs to find a way to get rid of them.

I think she's hiding it so I thought talking about it would be embarrassing her.

Yes, they are awful. I did daycare and one of my daycare children brought them into my home, the mom didn't tell me they had them. It was awful getting rid of them and now I am very paranoid of going to others homes or sleeping in hotels. I hate those things.

@cintol I understand that. Thank God none of them did that. My room and clothes are safe as much as I know. No more bedbugs incident after that.

@mydanods I don't blame you, but remember, they can attach themselves to you and go where you go also in your clothes.

Once I had a bad attack of bedbugs and I had to throw our beddings, pillows etc in the end. Obviously, this should have come from a guest who stayed with me. When we travel, we are vulnerable through mixing of suitcases - siva
