Baby it’s Cold Outside

It is certainly really cold outside here in Riga, Latvia with temperatures in the minuses both during the day and night. That means it is appropriate that my next word that derived from words in reference to animals is arctic. The word arctic derived from the Greek word for bear arktos. However, it does not refer to actual bears but to the lovely constellation Ursa Major or Great Bear up in the night sky.

It's not too cold here, thankfully. We've had much colder weather around this time of year. So, the weather we're getting now is quite nice.

I'm guessing the Great Bear is sort of mythical as it has a tail. I didn't think bears had tails - at least not as long as this one's.

Yes, it is depicted like this and purely mystical but if you could trace the stars the constellation would look like a bear with a long tail @JudyEv
