Getting a shot they say is more painful than donating blood.

@averygirl72 A shot is an injection so when you get a vaccine that's getting a shot.

yes, once. it didn't hurt. you fill up a form first, so even if you want to, you could get screened out.

I see I thought anyone can donate blood. There is still screening. I wouldn't know if it hurts if I didn't try

@averygirl72 it didn't, actually. it just took a long time for them to find my veins, which always happens. my nephew qualified, but my niece didn't. try going to a hospital and ask if you can get a copy of the form so you have an idea what the questions are.

I see. The donor may get anemia if you have one

@averygirl72 No, anemia is not a disease of the blood. Anemia is a condition that develops when your blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells. So you cannot donate, because you have not enough blood.

I don't think it's actually healthier for your body to donate since your body produces fresh blood all the time. But it is good for others whose lives you are saving by donating. I am phobic of having blood drawn so I cannot give blood. I almost pass out having my blood drawn. I don't weigh enough to donate anyway.

I haven't tried to, and even I want to, i can"t coz I've been anemic ever since I was in high school...in fact I even needed blood transfusion when I gave birth to my first child...

I have donated blood before but it was for my use during my surgery if needed. Thankfully I didn't need it so they kept it for use on someone else.

My parents never allowed us. And they instilled a fear in us that we'll never recover. But that is ignorance. It is perfectly okay to do so and care just need to be taken to eat leafy vegetables for a while. The body is perfectly able to produce new blood.

@averygirl72 Yes, I am off the same opinion too. Helping people is always a good thing. I know some people 'sell' their blood too.
