questions for those with rebonded hair

i'm planning to have my hair rebonded for the first time. it is one length now and long enough to brush my shoulders. it has never been colored, nor treated before. after the session, i plan to have it trimmed to chin length. i just want to have short, wash-and-wear hair, that stays in place. my questions are: did you ever have a negative experience with rebonding? (ex. itchy scalp, falling hair, split ends, irregular length) do you follow all the instructions like not wetting/shampooing for 3 days? not tying it or using any hair accessories? what shampoo/conditioner do you use? do you shampoo/condition every day? do you need regular hot oil treatments and trim the ends? how many months do you wait before you rebond it again? thanks in advance.

It may be a treatment with chemicals so I think is must have own side effects. I know a lady personally, she is a beauticians technician and does this treatment for her own. She told that its effect is worst . I have long and straight hair, I agree caring the hair is really a tough job especially when you live in city. I apply Henna once in a month that is the only care I give for my hair.

I have had my hair rebonded in the past and I followed all the instructions and I had a good experience with my stylist. Now if you ask me if I'll ever have my hair rebonded again the answer is no. I would rather go for Brazilian blowout with the authentic Brazilian blowout brand.

i had brazilian blowout first because they said it would look more natural (not stiff stick straight like a broom) but it only lasts for a few months since it's only a treatment, not permanent like rebonding, so it's back to being wavy.

@hereandthere If it's ok with you to have thinner and unhealthy hair with the rebond then it's good. Brazilian blowout lasts long on me coz I use their shampoo and other hair products as well. And it doesn't thin out my hair.

@toniganzon when i had the brazilian blowout, i got conflicting advice. some said it's okay to use regular shampoo, some said not to shampoo often. when i started asking about rebonding and how to care for it afterwards, some say to use baby shampoo, some say shampoo for color-treated hair.

I used to have my hair rebonded every 6-7 months. It has taken its toll on my hair when I started to have falling hair and experienced alopecia areata. I didn't have it rebonded for more than one and a half year. When my hair is newly rebonded, I am instructed that I can only wet or shampoo it after 5 days. I can't ponytail it nor put a clip on it. I have to always condition it after shampooing and can only do so after two days. I always have the ends trimmed every other month. We can't have it cut so short lest "umangat" and will curl. It's best they say that it's long so the hair will be heavy thus will always pull the hair down, making it always straight for many months.

@hereandthere I think, the cause of my alopecia was the chemical used for rebonding on a salon I always patronize. I changed salon already after I had my alopecia. Though, I know it's also my not getting enough sleep. I have difficulty sleeping early that's why then I have to wake up at 5:00. No, but I had my hair straightened before when rebonding isn't yet introduced.

i remember your alopecia, but didn't know that's what caused it. i didn't know that longer is better. have you tried relaxing?

@SIMPLYD i notice that rebonded hair that's one length looks much healthier and natural than the layered ones which look unruly. what shampoo and conditioner do you use? do you have hot oil treatments?

that's okay. i kept my hair short because it's wavy and don't have the patience to care for it. that's why i'm amazed at guys with long hair.

I never did, my niece had her hair rebonded and she said that she will never do this again. The chemicals damaged her hair that finally looked less shiny and straight like a broom.

so rebonding is available in other countries, too. i just want it to look less wavy and now i'm having second thoughts about it. i guess your niece will have to grow out her hair again.

@hereandthere It did not take long to regrow her hair. She is a fashion consultant and makeup artist, so she tries a lot of things.

No, I am lucky enough at the moment not to need treatments like that and the odd bit of conditioner effects lasts for weeks after.

@hereandthere I have always had what you could call wild hair a bit difficult to handle but it does style easily if someone else does it for me. I can´t do it very good myself and I do try though.

@hereandthere I did have a long retro style hair before. I just have shampoos. That's all. I wasn't that delicate in taking good care of it, my friend.

@Shavkat then you just tie it in a ponytail so your students don't notice that it's long

that's okay. i was surprised by the responses from other countries, and now i'm having second thoughts about it. have you ever colored or curled your hair? or grew it very long or cut it supershort?

@jaboUK my mother's hair looked prettier when she stopped coloring it and it became all white like yours. i've seen your pictures before and short suits you. it would be interesting to see your permed hair.

@hereandthere I had long hair when I was young, and I had a perm once. I wear it quite short now, and it's nearly white.

@hereandthere many times. I had good and bad experience. I think it depends on the chemical they used on your hair. Or the right amount. Or something like that. Haha

Years ago I did. My hair is naturally wavy and I wanted stick straight hair. It looked sleek and felt like spun silk, but I looked like a moron. It was too flat for me. The only good thing was that I didn't have to dry it, since it dried stick straight. I had to use their very expensive shampoo and conditioner. I had it done two or three times, then quit after I saw how awful I looked in a photo. It lasted several months, actually longer than I had anticipated it would.

@DianneN true! it was straight when i was young then became wavy as i got older. i mean the top is straight but not the rest. it's not like other asian hair that's naturally straight from the roots. i was never into hair. all i want is chin length hair with some bangs/fringe. as in, that simple.

i want to avoid the flat look, too. how did you deal with the natural hair growing on top that had a different texture to the rest of the rebonded hair?

@hereandthere It wasn't too bad and not noticeable. My hair is just slightly wavy, so I blew it out smooth and it blended in. I have a lot of body and should be happy with that, but the grass is always greener. Is your hair curly?

I tried to have it once but the chemicals burned my scalp and gave me wounds. It took a while for the wounds to heal. I was told that the solution used to rebond hair contains a chemical that is also found in toilet cleaners. I guess I'm very sensitive to it. Will never attempt to get a hair rebond ever again.

oh, my. that's extreme. did you have to go to a dermatologist?
• Philippines
2 Mar 18
@hereandthere no. I just had to use baby shampoo for like 2 months. Haha. And this is why I'm super amazed at those who can tolerate these chemicals. I think natural hair is best. Though if you'd like to loosen your waves a bit, try those shampoos that promise silky straight hair. (Although I'm sensitive to those too.)

@almostoveryou i've tried baby shampoos before and notice that it feels stripped even as i'm rinsing it and tough to comb.

The last time I have a rebonded hair was 6 years ago before I got sick. I am planning but I'm afraid since I'm into treatment. So far I still have a soft and straight hair, and a month ago I had it colored and put some highlights on it like the usual I do for my hair. Every time I color them I always have hair treatment. I always shampoo my hair and conditioner as well.
