A pretty hibiscus from Denmark in Western Australia

We’ve just returned from five nights away and there are 70 emails each telling me of multiple notifications. So I hope everyone will be patient till I get to them all. We had a lovely relaxing time away but I wasn’t able to myLot. I know I will have missed out on a lot of interesting discussions but hopefully I’ll catch up with most of them before too long. We took the caravan to Denmark which in this case is a town on Western Australia’s south coast. I’m not sure how it came to get its name. It’s nice to be home and this evening we’re going to a free film called The Purpose of a Dog. It is a long weekend here – Labour Day weekend - and the roads were very busy with holiday-makers going every which way. And I couldn't resist taking a photo of this very pretty hibiscus which was in the garden of the caravan park where we stayed.

@judyev @maluse When I see hibiscus, I have to think of Africa.

@MALUSE It seems that many people do not consider Egypt as an African country. Strange. I'm one of them.

@xFiacre Africa is 'Black' Africa in our imagination. Yet, all the Arab states in the North of the continent are Africa, too.

I can't think of Africa because I don't know this continent. I visited Egypt but that doesn't count in my opinion.

Only the south, they do not survive in the north.

That is a very beautiful flower. I loved the photos of the changing colours of the petals.

@JudyEv the yellow is my favorite because the flowers are as big as saucers. the red one is smaller, it's all red in color, and the petals don't fully open. the latest one is like pinkish peach and the petals are wide apart like that.

Do you have them in other colours too? There is quite a variety of colours. Mostly I prefer the double types but I loved the colouring of this one.

They come in some very lovely colours. Is your red one a single type or a double? The double has lots of petals.

It almost matches the one that blooms in my garden. Tempted to post it here for your viewing pleasure

I thought it was just gorgeous. The double ones are pretty too but the two shades here were very eye-catching.

I had another two nights away and I'm still catching up - but I did put up two posts and read and respond to others' before I started on the notifications. Nine days will be a lot to catch up on.

What a beautiful picture! I am not one who grows many plants (or any for that matter as I have a brown thumb and have actually killed a cactus before) but I'd love to try. I've heard that you can grow hibiscus inside in containers even in cold climates. Anyone know if this is the case?

That's so pretty! We have lots of hibiscus here on Oahu, but none that I've seen with the markings as your hibiscus in Australia. It's so nice to know that Australia has hibiscus too. The hibiscus is Hawaii's State flower. Each Hawaiian Island has their own flower too. https://statesymbolsusa.org/symbol-official-item/hawaii/state-flower/pua-aloalo

I didn't know about each island having its own flower. That's something new I've learnt today.
