Should people be kicked out of church or made to feel unwelcomed?

There are a few articles being shared on a different social media. A pastor called women who dressed provocatively or with adornments a degrading form of hooker. Was he right? Do you think a woman should paint her nails or wear red lipstick in church?

There is nothing wrong with make-up, but if a man enters in a Catholic church bare-chested or a woman with a mini-skirt there are chances that they will be told to go out and come back with decent clothes. I approve that, anybody should respect a worship space.

@Daelii Churches here have welcomed many illegal immigrants, it is not about material appearance, but about respecting the place.

I agree people should respect the practices of a faith when entering a holy building. Churches use to be sanctuary places that people could enter and be safe. How can it be that if the doors are closed to people based on material appearance that has nothing to do with bringing people closer to god?

@MALUSE oh wow! I know churches are different all over! Its sad that tourists won't respect the sights they visit. Then again, over here in the USA people have been murdering/ killing people in church... Is there a difference between a person entering a church to sightsee and a person entering a church to seek a religious experience? I personally feel if someone goes in to pray they should be able to. :(

Touchy subject. Jesus kicked people out of the Temple, after all. And, you have to ask, at what point should a house of worship kowtow to "acceptance"? Should someone be allowed to wear a t-shirt with a swastika on it to a synagogue, or a shirt that says "the pope is the anti-christ" to a cathedral? There are a number of denominations in all religions that mandate "conservative" dress codes. If a person is going to a mosque he/she should expect a dress code, and should also expect to be asked to adhere to that dress code or to leave if they don't want to. Isn't that their right as part of "freedom of religion"? Having said that, there is a Biblically-mandated way of handling these things: you're supposed to go to the person privately and address the issue, not get up in front of the congregation and say, "Hey, you wh*re!" Judging is also a sin, and people are equally commanded to not engage in it.

True. But I thought he kicked the money makers out of church. They turned it from god and into a business and Jesus brought the building back into a place of worship to god. ?? Closing doors to those seeking god doesn't seem right for a church.

@FourWalls I didn't even think of it that way! Now that you said it, I do have to wonder how the preacher got that idea!

I think people should be respectful when they enter any holy place and should dress appropriately for that particular religion.

Nope, I think everyone has a right to dress and look like they want to look. People go to church to praise God not the people sitting beside them.

Perfectly said! The point if church is to be closer to god. God doesn't care if you wear rags or clean clothes when you pray. What matters is that you pray!

His work is not to judge others. His work is to have a positive impact on them. If he believes they are hookers, he should just preach words that can turn their lives around

I think he might have been taking 1 Peter 3 a bit far. You can dress nice without it being provocative or degrading. Painting you nails or wearing lipstick enhances a person's beauty, but certainly doesn't degrade them.

No i dont think he was right. God is welcoming and a church should welcome everyone no matter what they wear
