Why so Angry?

I see a lot of people that must come here to vent. This isn't a news media channel where they scream and rage about world events, it's a place for simple reflection on life. Some of the issues might be emotionally taxing, but those frustrations are better served elsewhere, than 'yelling' with capitalized words in a text response. Is it because of the feeling of inadequacy? Perhaps one isn't capable of rationalizing an opinion and have to lash out at the opposition to make a point. In that case, isn't that point clouded by that anger? It certainly makes it easy to see why this world is full of so many problems when its people can't even have a calm discussion with an exchange of ideas. So don't be angry. Relax. There are better things to do than share your anger with others, because that's just passing on a frown. Smile. Those are much more fun to pass along!

I personally have seen very little anger on the site, but if people are angry about something they have a right to discuss it - that's what this site is about. What they don't have is a right to be rude - that crosses the line.

Rudeness and anger often goes hand in hand. :)

That's what we see in most of the discussions on the Indian TV channels these days.

@franxav Is it as bad as Italy that people will talk onto other people, you get three or four people yelling at the same time and you question why you're watching that channel as you don't understand anything? It looks more like a hen-house than a debate.

It tends to be what I see on any channel with media on it. That's why I don't watch television. :)

@sabtraversa Then to add to the fun of Italian TV, while they're yelling at each other they're waiving their hands and arms around like crazy....think if you could harness that energy!

I try to relax rather than express my anger. Thanks for the reminder. In this stressed out world full of anxieties, we need the reminders.

I learned how to channel it so I no longer stored it. When I was in the really angry part of my life, it flowed across my chest and shoulders like an intense fire, and went into my heart. I learned how to change the direction of that flow, and it burned my arms instead. After that, it dissipated without fancy redirects.

Good point, but easier to be said than to be done. I accept there are people who choose causes to fight for, maybe they truly believe in something, maybe they just want to build a certain image of themselves. And yes, they can be loud and harsh in expressing their belief. I'm sometimes one of those but I can't really help myself. I mean, I try my best to be polite and respectful in discussions, I try to empathize and understand their point of view, but the truth is I think I'm right and want to convince someone else I am, that person thinks they're right and want to convince me they are. We'll never end the argument that way, so eventually we just say bye, peace. Is there something we disagree on? At least we could monetize an argument!

@OneOfMany Honestly, I've never experienced that amount of anger and negativity over here. Viceversa, I got my guts turning black (figure of speech I've just made up) on Facebook. I only need breaks because I'm out of content or ideas. But politicians drown in charisma! I start to CAPITALIZE when others do the same, it's a natural instinct. Some people seem so "violent" the only thing they understand is violence, you either fight with the same weapon or hold back. I haven't had a new argument since I learned this. Exchange of ideas that turn into "insult contests", that's what some people want, or are only good at. Just because some people don't want to admit they were offended by an opinion so they reply back with an insult, whoa, can't they just say they were offended so I apologize and say I didn't mean to? Geez.

@sabtraversa Remember, this has long been the 'world of hurt feelings'. People get offended, and then they treat it as a personal attack. A war of insults naturally results when people learn that that's how they can fight. I tend to like a degree of civility here. It's a much nicer way to interact with others. We can't expect the world to unify if individuals are constantly at war with one another.

Periodically I need a break from the anger on this site. My breaks have been nearly a year before. Once I was in what I thought was a simple exchange of ideas, but then the other person flew off the handle, insulted me multiple times over, and then got the last word in, before blocking me. And this was supposed to be an older adult who had learned better. I find my points lose value when I respond in anger. I don't want to come across like a politician! :P

I feel we almost need a positive media resource out there in the world today. Anytime I see a television, the world seems to be a horribly dark place. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I remember news networks would balance the horrible with uplifting and positive news. New innovations and positive news. Now it's just anger. Perhaps I will also start sharing good stories like you. I think the world needs a little more smiling. This post was just a way of reminding people that I disapprove (and though my identity is obscured by my silly avatar, I'm someone who cares) of an angry edge. Right or otherwise, it's not needed in a world overflowing with it.

@BearArtistLady I only watch the news when I want to be angry. Since I spent many years of my life angry, I don't wish to be in that state much. It always made my headaches worse, and I don't like to be in pain more than necessary. Typically, when someone lacks the ability to negotiate, they turn to force. It's the easy way out, and in doing so, it generates some feelings of relief. An opponent you slay no longer can argue. And they aren't taunting you with their existence. However, I have hated people in the past, and come to like them later in life, even to the point of being friends with them. It would be nice to end up at the 'friend' part sooner.

@OneOfMany I stopped watching the news myself. I can't handle all the horrible things going on in the world. I can't understand why differences can't be settled in a calm serene discussion rather than like little children who HAVE to get their way in it's entirety. It's like what I say about my situation. Instead of coming yo me about the situation in a calm relaxed manner the people have to come to me demanding without a plausible compromise in hand. It amounts to the people being "full of themselves" as my Mom used to say. Its people eaten up with their own feelings of self importance. We have enough of people who are showing how self important or angry they are. They Ned to step back, count to a hundred, and look at the world from calm equalized eyes.

Yes, there are a lot of people get angry here but I guess we're different from each other different attitude, there's a cool guy, hotheaded and no reaction. Hehe, Just ignore them and focus on those who are fun to talk to.

@rheicel "Everyone is crazy." That sums it up nicely! In some parts of the world, people can't help being angry. There is a parasite that can get into the brain and it actually increases hostility in people. And these people would spend the rest of their lives never knowing that it is there.

I'm thinking that's the best way, but I still see post of theirs that occasionally warrant a response. :) After taking psychology courses, it's in my nature to investigate why others get so upset, when they don't need to be.

I think I missed a lot when I was away on a business trip. Who was angry here? Too many members from different countries, mylot is a multicultural and diverse community that we seem to see people acting differently. sometimes not in accordance with what we expect. But I've learned over the years to be not affected by the differences here in mylot.

Just certain discussions carry too much angst and anger for my liking. I'm just pointing it out, because while people can 'exercise their 'right' to act how they want', I think it would be better to keep a level head in discussions.
