Crappy Phone Service

I have a land line that is with a company called Windstream. Most of the time there is no problem but recently, I've had no service at all. The portable phones will say, "Line in Use" or, "No Line." I'll go to the land line and either there is nothing but static or nothing at all. Really? And the weather is not a problem. So I used the cell phone that my daughter gave me for emergencies (which has a Nebraska phone number) to try and call them. Of course they don't recognize that phone number. And with the outages happening mostly on the weekends.....well good luck trying to hit operator for assistance. I finally got through to them yesterday and told them #1, I want a credit on my account and #2 that since I had been deathly ill, I wouldn't have been able to call for an ambulance for help. 8 hours later I get a phone call that actually comes through from a tech that had looked into the problem. He still didn't know what was wrong but gave me his personal cell number so that if it happened again, I could call him directly and he'd be right out to investigate. Well that's just ducky-poo but if the phone isn't working, do I use the cell phone with the Nebraska number on it or do I go to a neighbor's house to make the call. I'm just gonna buy one of those alarm, neck thingies. Then I can just press the button and say, "Help, I've fallen and I can't get up" as I lay in my bathtub or I'm out in the pasture somewhere. Alexander Graham Bell would not be proud.

That's why I prefer living in a house with other people. We aren't friends but good neighbours and they'd look out for me and call help. My husband and I used to live in the middle, now we live in the top flat/apartment.

@nanette64 The style is called art nouveau. The house is ~120 years old.

@MALUSE Beautiful. I love older structures; they have so much more character than the thumb-nail buildings of today.

I love the style of that building @MALUSE . My neighbor is about 100 yards away but still....with my big mouth, he'd probably still hear me.

Especially with my spinal condition @amadeo . I never know when I might fall or even lifting 50-pound bags of oats and feed for the donkeys could do me in. Not to mention the 70-pound bales of hay that I have to wiggle out of the backseat of my car and haul into the hay barn.

Our land line was never dependable. We got cell phones, but they also are iffy. They do work better then the landline though

It's only been the last year or so that this company has been screwing up @Tampa_girl7 . Why I don't know.

Sorry about your phone problems. I do have a cell phone but I most always use my landline. Cell phones are good in emergencies so I hope you get your issues settled satisfactorily.

I hope you are feeling much better now. Especially when one lives alone a functioning phone service is of utmost importance.

Oh thats terrible to be isolated like that with no phone. Sorry to hear it. I have a useless cell phone. It is a rare occasion when I can get a signal around here.

That's a problem here too with the signal @Courage7 . And the really stupid part is that there is a tower about 5 miles away. Seriously?
