The Oscars

I really didn't think I would be up in time to go to the pool this morning as I stayed up and watched all the Oscars last night. Something I haven't done in many years. Okay, the good, the bad, and the super ugly. The good - the show was clean. No bad jokes, even off color ones. That made me super happy. The bad - One of the presenters had a dress I wouldn't be seen wearing to bed. It barely covered her upper torso, and was almost see through. Totally bad. Super Ugly - the dress the winner for best actress wore. I've never seen anything so ugly in my life. There must be some kind of award for wearing something that ugly. She also looked like she didn't do anything with her hair. It looked tragic. Another that could take an award for worst dressed was the man with the pink and black striped jacket with either some kind of blue bird or blue dragon on it for one of the best songs. Now for the winners. I was disappointed that Greatest Showman didn't win best song. I thought they really deserved it, even after seeing the other options. I've never heard of The Shape of Water which got 4 Oscars, and totally disappointed it won Best Picture, since I was really hoping Darkest Hour would get that honor. I was happy to see Gary Oldman win for leading actor for Darkest Hour, and Darkest Hour also won in makeup, hair and costume design. Now, for the commercials. I don't usually watch commercials, but I have to say there were a couple good ones. Two in fact. The first to grab my attention was the Samsung phone commercial with a 'Make Something' theme to it. Two girls sitting in or on the bed with nothing to do or anything they want to do. For me that spoke to the apathy found in young people today who do nothing more than play with their phones, and the phone company was encouraging them to get out and make something of their lives. The other commercial I liked was a Wal-Mart blue box commercial. It was the first one they showed with the child in the box pretending to be on an alien planet and her mother told her it was time for bed. It showed imagination. Okay, that was my take on the Oscars. Did you watch them? What did you think? Thanks for reading.

@LeaPea2417 I enjoy action movies, a bit of science fiction, fantasy, drama, historical. Okay, I think I just figured out your question - The movies I enjoyed this Oscar season were The Greatest Showman and Darkest Hour. Greatest Showman didn't win, which was a shame. They really deserved the Oscar for best song. I'm glad Gary Oldman got best actor for Darkest Hour.

I hadn't either. It was the first time in over a decade for me to watch, but I wanted to see how a couple movies I enjoyed would do.

I didn't watch, but it might be fun to do so. I wouldn't have known much of the movies though. Ah, I hear you it does seem like current high fashion is so ugly lately

From what I've heard about this actress, she doesn't care how she looks.

I wanted to ask for best picture but you had it there - The shape of water. Why were you disappointed in that choice?

I really wanted Darkest Hour to win. It's an outstanding movie and deserved the win. I think it also won the best song. I really wanted Greatest Showman to win that, and I think it was the better song of those selected.

I can take a look on YouTube for some of the highlights but pretty much now I don't really know too many of the actors and actresses so I am not as interested as I was years back when i lived in the states.

I don't know many of the actors or actresses either. I had only seen two of the nominated films, and wanted to know how they fared.

I watched and was surprised that I enjoyed it. Usually I don't tune into the Oscars because I rarely see any of the movies

I was surprised I enjoyed it as well. I had seen a couple of the movies up for Oscars, so I wanted to see if they would get any awards.

Frances McDormand for Three Billboards. She's the one who wore the ugliest dress I've ever seen.

I only watched the Oscars because a Chilean actress was one of the presenters and the Chilean film finally got the Oscar as the best foreign film. I wrote a post about that.

I never watch the Oscars. I am just not that interested in them. Doesn't it seem like it that anything goes in Hollywood. . The more you show of your body the more you are liked. Plus I have seen some really ugly clothes in fashion shows on videos that I watch.

Those two were the worst. For the most part women were decently dressed.

I enjoyed the Oscars, but I had only watched a few of the movies ... Dunkirk, Victoria and Abdul, and Blade Runner 2049. A lot of the movies, like The Shape of Water, just didn't interest me this year, so it was hard to get excited about the Oscars. I liked some of the evening gowns this year. They seemed like a return to glamor, for the most part.

Most of the gowns were pretty, only a couple were questionable. I haven't seen those movies, but I did see Greatest Showman and Darkest Hour. I'm glad Gary Oldman got the Oscar. He really deserved it.

I was disappointed in Best Picture. I was really hoping Darkest Hour would get it. I have no intention of ever watching The Shape of Water. I also thought, after watching the other performances for best song, it should have gone to The Greatest Showman. That was another disappointment. The only Oscar that wasn't a disappointment was Best Leading Actor for Gary Oldman. He deserved it.

@just4him in Dracula, he was lead role. in Air Force One, he was the main antagonist. i love his fight scene with the president, played by Harrison Ford. in Batman, he was the chief of police who often flashed the Batman sign in the sky.

No, I don't watch TV here. I have a TV, but cannot get the three channels I used to be able to get. Whether it be on TV or in magazines, so many people, but especially women in film and acting have poor taste in apparel. You will see the price right next to te picture in many magazines. I am so surprised that they will spend so much money to wear trashy clothes. Sometimes, I think they do it to get attention. If their acting doesn't do it, try something else. The commercial you mentioned about the two girls and the phone sounds like it deserves an award in our day and age. Maybe one of your books will be made into a movie.

I gave up watching the Oscars and every other Hollywood award show years ago when they started using it as a stage to promote their political agenda to the rest of the world. They're actors, their job is to act. They need to keep the politics out of their business.

There wasn't any political jibes this time, or basically anything else that always made it raunchy. It was clean, which was a huge surprise to me.
