Can you type?

I went to college after I left school and learned to type. There was no internet then, just the old fashioned typewriters but I'm eternally grateful that I did as it has been so useful with my online sites. I know people manage very well with the 'hunt and peck' version (using two fingers) but being able to type is so much quicker. Can you type properly or do you use two fingers?

@Bluedoll I tend to make a lot of typos so although I can type quite fast I make a lot of mistakes. I often read over an old post and find a typo.

I'm really glad I learned to type although I didn't know how useful it would be in later life.

@caopaopao Sometimes you don't realise just how useful something will be later on when you are much older.

I can type with two hands really good but I use just one hand most of the time.

@sprite1950 It really helps if you can type without looking at the keys all the time.

@nela13 You probably don't make as many mistakes as me! I sometimes go over old posts and see a typo I've missed,

I also learned typing during the old days. I think it is an essential skill to have nowadays.

Yes, I learnt to type in school, using the old fashioned typewriters I never look at my keyboard while I type.

No I can't type properly. I never had an office job so didn't need to learn. I didn't get a computer until I was 73 (5 years ago), and I just use two fingers (middle finger on the right, index finger on the left).

@anikoonline It does indeed. I watch my partner with his hunt and peck style and it takes him forever to type anything out.

@sprite1950 Same here. I usually offer my boyfriend to type him. I can do it in 2 minutes that would take at least 10 mins for him.

I am an anomaly of sorts. I use my forefingers, but actually can type that way faster than many can type the proper way. I have always done things my way. Why would typing be any different, I suppose?

I wonder if that comes under hunt and peck .. you're probably too fast for that

When I was in my early 20s I landed a job in the publicity department of a TV station. Eventually they got so tired of my "hunt and peck" typing that they paid for me to go and learn. Unfortunately for them (and, as it turned out, for me - but that's another story) my typing teacher ended up offering me a job teaching typing and managing a new typing school that she was opening.

@lynnief Oh that's a shame. Money isn't everything .. I learned that long ago by taking on well paid jobs that I hated,

@lynnief The TV station shot themselves in the foot by sending you to learn to type. You must have done very well if your teacher offered you a job. Quite an amusing story.

@sprite1950 I was the one who really shot myself in the foot. Even though it paid twice as much as the TV station, the typing school job was not nearly as interesting.

I went to university and Cegep (a thing we have here in Quebec, something between university and high school). Both really helped my typing. As I had to write a lot of papers, my typing skills improved. I can type with two hands and most of my fingers.
