One afternoon, us living in town then, I spotted a new neighbor so I called across to him: "Welcome to the neighborhood!" Answer? A mocking repeat of what I'd greeted him with then a laugh and a shoulder away. Sunday I visited the little town that we are moving to in a few years. I found a sweet walking trail and when we pulled into the parking lot, two men who were putting long fishing poles into their car's trunk. I decided to be bold. I asked them if there was a river near by? They said yes, about a mile's walk past a glorious old barn. Yum! I told the two men that I'd just bought a house here and was getting to know the town a little. Their answer? A friendly "Welcome to the town!" Such a difference. Two other times some one told me "Welcome!" No mocking. Big smiles and hellos. Sure made my day sunnier.

That is wonderful. At least now you'll have time to figure out what to do with Saia, who knows, you might even be able to find a way to take her along.

@rebelann I really can't picture Saia in the environment that we are headed to. I petted her this morning. She withheld her opinion for one pet then bit me when I tried again. She's outside right now.

@rebelann I totally agree with you. Totally. This is why I am going easy on figuring what to do with her in a few years. I have a bite mark on my finger now. Three years with Saia and she still will not hesitate to bite.

There will always be a negative in a nice town but those wonderful smiles from others are what matters. Kindness goes a long ways.

Sometimes exchanging greetings and pleasantries are all that is needed to feel good. Glad that you will have a nice place to move to.

People are funny. Maybe the one guy was just having a bad day.

Sounds like you'll fit right in there. How nice is that going to be?
