As I told you all that I am an equine Vet and working for one of the popular Stud farms in India where we breed horses for Racing! We breed Thoroughbreds and it takes a lot to breed a thoroughbred especially in India as they are not native to India. Our breeding season starts from January and ends in the first week of July where we have new born babies and we try to get the mares again pregnant to get babies next year! This is an Industry with huge investment and so we try to get as many babies as possible every year! Getting babies for the season is a happy moment for all of us working on the farm…but getting first pregnancy is happiest moment as I have already mentioned that it takes lot of efforts as the inputs. Today I have got first pregnancy for this season from a mare which delivered a baby 45 days back. Today I diagnosed her positive for pregnancy and the picture shown here is the Ultra sound image of 12 days old embryo which looks as a small black circle, which will grow into a fetus soon! So I hope you can understand why I am so happy today! Your comments would be highly appreciated! Thanks!

@AKRao24 but the same mare delivered a baby a month and half ago? Isn't it dangerous for her?

@AKRao24 Did you like horses before you started the job or grew to like them when you started working with them? Do you have Netflix and have the show Heartland? They are have lots of horses and races in the show.

Before joining a Stud farm I was practicing for canines i.e dogs, having joined stud farm I started loving those lovely animals today I am associated with them since last 30 years! I don't have Netflix, but have about 300 odd horses at given time and I have attended few good live races to have the excitement!

That is what we keep our target at...but then despite all the efforts some mares want to have natural rest and they remain empty @ridingbet! Thanks for the interest shown!

No doubt about it! But that is tough time also ....as they are born during breeding season only! The gestation period of the mare is 11 months! Thanks!

I'm sure you breed from the mares most years but do they ever get a break between pregnancies?

Yes, If they wish...I mean they take natural rest....You are a big failure despite all your efforts to get her to conceive, if they decide as per the instructions of nature and then very subsequent year they will conceive without any problem! This fact is known to every breeder....Thanks @JudyEv !
