Doors are the theme of this particular music series. Not The Doors, rather, a countdown of my favorite songs with "door" in the title. We are at #9: the classic, "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" was written and performed by Bob Dylan for his Grammy nominated soundtrack for director Sam Peckinpah's classic 1973 western, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Dylan scored an international hit with the song, taking it to #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Top 10 status in three other nations (Dylan charted the song in a total of six countries.) But take a look at the number of artists that have covered the song either on record, or live in concert. And this is just a sample of notable acts: Eric Clapton. Guns N' Roses (Top 5 in nine countries, charting in a total of 14.) The Grateful Dead. The Jerry Garcia Band. Warren Zevon. The Sisters of Mercy. Randy Crawford. Avril Lavigne. Television. Fairport Convention. Again, that's just a sample. It's a lengthy sample, yes, but a sample nonetheless. My favorite version is by The Sisters of Mercy, but I have a feeling that they will be showing up later in this series, so I've linked to a 1992 Tokyo performance by Guns N' Roses, which is worth it for Slash's guitar play alone. (Kicking the damn thing in info verified by Wikipedia)

I saw it when I was a kid. I need to see it as an adult.

Didn't see this one coming at all. Truth be told, how could you leave it out?

@teamfreak16 He tends to say confusing and contradictory things it seems. I read his autobiography last year.

@JamesHxstatic - I did a final paper on him in high school. It was interesting learning about him.

I remember reading somewhere that he said that he wasn't trying to write all of this great stuff, that they were just words. Which makes him an even bigger genius.

Great song. Obviously lots of artists thought so too.

I haven't looked it up or anything, but it's possible that it's Dylan's most covered song.
