Hotel Booking Pitfalls

With my trip to Harrogate in Yorkshire, England coming up soon, I booked a hotel online some time in advance to get a cheap deal. As a result, the site I booked through now bombard me with offers for other hotel I might enjoy staying in, even on the same dates I am travelling already and in many cases, much more expensive than the break I have already booked. Though I like staying in a hotel, it I really just a place with a warm bed for the night and in this case an inclusive breakfast. I’m travelling to attend a convention and look around Harrogate. I’ll barely see the hotel apart from literally entering, going to and from my room, and the dining area. I don’t stay in hotels to be pampered. They are just a place to secure my tuff and sleep at night. I don’t generally drink in hotel bars, never use the mini-bar, room service or the electric trouser press. The only time I want to look at other hotels is if I visit the town and cities where they are, not to see the hotel itself. Invitations to hotels all over the country just don’t appeal to me at all. I've noticed the same! Even funnier are the amount of hotel offers I've been sent for my home city from a travel app I used to book a weekend away!

@Essjayd yes I get those too, no point in me booking a hotel so close to home

@arthurchappell Yes unless my house falls down I can't ever see me requiring a hotel half a mile up the street

Haven't been to a hotel in years but we are basically the same, as long as we can secure our things and have a place to lay our heads it is a go! We are to busy looking at the attractions which for us is really the museums and such to hang at the hotel. Hope you have a great time!

I haven't stayed in a hotel/motel in years. We used to go up to a mountain resort town and stay there for a few days. We always stay in the same place. The rooms are decorated with moose, deer or such mountain animals. No free meals though. Hope you enjoy your trip.

I know what you mean. I searched a hotel for a friend and I was bombarded for days with hotel proposals. I like the Preston Station, very nice.

That's just insane and maybe odd for business. Hope you enjoy that convention.

@KristenH it is crazy - they just think saturating me with offers will make me take a trip regardless - I just think how much more money I save by not booking at all

Almost always it's the same with us. We just want somewhere safe and warm to sleep.

Well, I love to stay on hotels and use some of their facilities. But this staycation for me. When I need to attend something somewhere, it does not matter the facilities as long as I will have a good sleep.

Does ANYONE ever use the electric trouser press??? Although booking online is often cheaper it does come with the disadvantage of constant email bombardment from point of booking to eternity!!

An inclusive breakfast is definitely a must when booking a hotel room! The internet is terribly annoying in its need for bombarding us with things we don't need. Grrr.

@Poppylicious I like hotel breakfasts but as long as there are enough cafes nearby they are not essential to me

On the other hand, hotels in Vegas are designed with the idea that you should never have to leave the hotel. Not that that's any fun.

Yes some people get to enjoy the whole hotel experience. People like us who are in dire straits, only want the bed to be out of the weather lol You can always block those emails if you like, but sometimes they may have some offer that might be useful to you. It is interesting isn´t it how much the price varies. I hope you have a lovely time when you go.
