Jason Bernfeld was on his way to work with the New York Police Department three days ago when he saw an auto that was overturned on Monday morning on the side of the woods that caught on fire.
The driver of the auto was not able to get out of his vehicle since his seat belt was stuck on him.
Bernfeld who also works with the Melville Fire Department used his fire fighting skills grabbed a fire extinguisher and a seat belt cutter to assist the injured driver escape the automobile.
Bernfeld grabbed the driver and got him out of the back window just in time. Seconds later the auto was engulfed in flames.
The Melville Fire Department arrived moments later after Bernfeld contacted them to put out the fire.
The injured driver was taken by the E M T to the Nassau Medical University Center to be treated for injuries that thankfully were not fatal.
It must have destiny that lead Bernfeld to assist an injured driver who most likely would be rubbed out if the driver did not leave the burning auto courtesy of Officer Bernfeld.

That is true since firemen are on call 24 hours a day.

It is heartwarming to read about someone putting themselves in danger to help someone else. Few people are that selfless these days.
