I burned my index finger on a hot pan while washing it because the bottom hadn't cooled off enough yet. I soaked it in cold water for 15 minutes, but it's still all purplish-pink at the burned spot and I can feel a blister coming. Since it's my right index finger, I'm having more trouble doing ordinary tasks, like opening jars or chopping things with the butcher knife. I really take for granted how much I use that finger. Ouch. I hope it heals quickly. There's an old wives tale that if you put mustard on it it'll soothe it. I know people that. swear by it.

I'll have to give that a try! Will just plain yellow hot dog mustard do?

I used to be a cook in an old people's home and I was covered in burns on my hands and lower arms. I remember once I burned my hand badly and had to take my son to the orthodontist after school and it was so painful I had to take a small container of ice with me to control the pain. They take a long time to heal on the fingers because we are using our hands all the time. I hope yours heals quickly.

@spiderdust That's good. The trouble is we mums we have our hands in water a lot which doesn't help.

I used to get cuts and burns all the time when I cooked for a living. I still feel like this was a "should have known better" sort of burn though. At least it feels much better today!

You can try to put some ice on it. It will not swell that much.

@spiderdust Uhm actually. It needs the ice cube to directly apply to it. It shouldn't be with the liquid form. It is just my opinion as I am in the medical field.

@Shavkat I don't think we're going to agree on this. "According to the Mayo Clinic, putting ice on a burn can cause frostbite and damage the skin. For better results, try running cool water over the area and taking a pain reliever." And, seriously... did you just "Um, actually..." me?
A batch of ice for a sunburn may seem like the perfect remedy, but is it?

I already soaked it in cold water for 15 minutes. It's actually recommended to not put ice on a burn as it can destroy already fragile and damaged tissues.

You need to keep the burned skin under running water, not soak it. I learned the lesson when I badly burned my left hand, I soaked it first for 15 minutes, they I applied a cold pack on it. The doctor told me it was a very bad idea, I had to keep the hand under running water for 30 minutes. Well, it took one month to be able to use the hand.

@spiderdust I am glad it is better today. I was badly burned, all the palm of my left hand. I forgot to turn off an electric heater and I put my hand on it.

It actually was running water part of the time, but I'll remember to have it be full running water next time. It's much better today!

I hate it. You feel so helpless because you know that the blister is coming no matter what.

Yeah, the damage has been done regardless of how much cool water you pour over it. All you can do is hope for the best.

Oh no, that's painful! A small cut or a burn is terrible, because we use our fingers to do any kind of task:(

I can relate, mine was not a burn but I peeled my hand under my thumb, I did not know I used that area as much as I do.

Oof, that is not fun. I have had my share of burns. I normally just dealt with the pain and then was an idiot and played with the blister haha

I have not, as ice can do more damage to a burn than help. It's feeling much better though.

There's nothing to worry. 2 ways to Repair that 1- The skin will repair it automatically if your left that finger for free. After some days that wounded spot will be full black. You will notice that slowly. Press that spot very softly, if it feels very very hard to you then you can slowly rip off that skin. Now wash it and put some liquid antiseptic. You can do all work now. 2- Burst the bubble. It will cause more pain and you have to roll a piece of bandage on it with some anti-septic. It feels a bit painful if you try to lift anything on that hand. You can only wait for full recovery. Unless the skin there gets tough and hard don't do anything.

I already washed it and I have no intention of bursting the blister if one shows.
16 Mar 18
@spiderdust great..your skin will start repairing the wounded spot now. Slowly the pain will be over.

Buy a gel for burns and rub on it. There is always one in the chemist store.
