Dancing Queen

The year was 1976 and the biggest song was by Wings “Silly Love Songs”. I remember hearing this song on most radio stations but I also remember I was not too fond of it. Nevertheless, it spent five weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was written by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney and was on their album Wings at the Speed of Sound. In 1976 it was released as a single. The Song of the Year was “Send in the Clowns” by Judy Collins but I can tell you my favorite version came later sung by Cher. The song was written by Stephen Sondheim for the musical “A Little Night Music” in 1973. Finally my favorite of all of these the best song was by ABBA “Dancing Queen”. It was written by ABBA members and on their fourth studio album Arrival. It became popular in many countries around the world and counted as the Europop version of American disco. The reason I particularly related to this song was that at the time I was 19. My teen years were drawing to a close. I was getting rather tired of guys singing silly love songs to me, most of them were clowns and all I wanted to do was to be the dancing queen. What do you think of these songs?

"If you change your mind, I'm the 1st in line" Doesn't quite rhyme and just for you, I've come up with a better one: *Clears throat "If you change your Vince, I can offer you mince" Wadda ya think?

I wasn't born yet in 1973 but I remember when I was a kid, listening to ABBA songs. My mom had a collection of all their albums.

@RasmaSandra Not sure my mother played it when I was a baby. But I'm sure she played it when she would take a lunch break. That was already in the 80s. I was about 5 years old.

@Shavkat In the US, yes. Sweden still make great English songs and their language is not even English. American music have intentional bad grammar these days.

Abba and Boney M were synonymous with the 70's what beautiful music and still as popular today as it was back then! I love Liz Mitchell from Boney M.

For me, it is a toss-up between The Wings and Paul McCartney solo songs but I do still love the older Beatles songs in their younger days.
