Mistakes were made!

Today I learned that you can't cook everything in the Instant Pot. I had to cook a bunch of hot dogs for dinner and thought, "could I Instant Pot them?" I checked Pinterest, found a few blogs where people claimed to have done this with decent results, and I gave it a try. Oh, the horrors that awaited me when I took off that lid! Swollen exploded hot dogs almost all the way to the top! They quickly deflated, and I saw that at least half of them were still intact (just underneath the exploded dogs). We had enough for dinner, and I'll chop up the rest to use in baked beans for Sunday's dinner.

I do not understand why people suggest systems that they have never tried at all. I was looking at a YouTube video yesterday, they suggest to use "olive oil" instead of W 40 on rusty hinges. This is a stupid thing to suggest. It works on the immediate, but the olive oil becomes "gummy" after a few days and it worsen the problem.

@spiderdust I double check any suggestion I find, I have seen terrible suggestions online.

That's a terrible suggestion! I try to get my information from good sources, but it's not always perfect.

@LadyDuck Some of them are pretty obviously bad suggestions, but some of them seem convincing. The frustrating thing with the hot dogs is I did check a couple of recipe websites to verify how to do this, but they must have all used a different brand of hot dogs than I did, or maybe they have a different brand of electric pressure cooker... something was clearly different.

some posts on Facebook do show things that are DIY and they are believable. but some are funny and amusing and if you listen and so the suggestion, maybe you will be satisfied with the outcome or not. an example is mixing Vicks vaporub with baking soda to be applied in the abdomen so the tummy fat (belly fat) will be reduced.

I can't even figure out how that would have any impact on belly fat at all.

@Tampa_girl7 Have you ever seen the ones that are exploded on purpose into octopus hot dogs?
Calling kids of all ages (and all you H.P. Lovecraft fans) out there! OK, so these are really silly. And I should note that I didn’t invent these little suckers. There’s a whole …

They were still good, but I didn't serve the exploded ones to the picky ones. I don't know what I'd do if they rejected hot dogs.

That looks horrible. At least you can salvage them into something. We had pot roast last night.

Yeah, they were at least edible even though they were strange looking. In fact, the kids finished them off yesterday -- two of them didn't like beef stew and asked for the leftover hot dogs instead, exploded or not.

That was funny! It reminds me of the time I tried to boil eggs in the microwave. I spent the rest of the day cleaning up the mess! :-D

Sometimes it can work the other way round. I have microwaved stuff that says it should be oven cooked and it has turned out quite well.

@spiderdust I just add garlic to everything (except ice cream) and all turns out well.

Sometimes you just have to play around and experiment with the recipes to figure out how to make it work.

Yeah, that's definitely not an Instagramable dinner, is it? At least they weren't wasted in the end. I'll stick to my tried and true methods of hot dog preparation from now on.

Even though the hot dogs look like you slit them with a knife, they still look delicious and edible. Some restaurants slit hot dogs with a knife on purpose.

I had some eggwhite do a weird spiderweb-like thing when I poached some eggs in little silicone cups, but that's because some accidentally got spilled into the poaching water.
