In 1985 I left the Navy. The Navy has never left me, though. That's just the way it is in the military: as that overplayed Eagles song that won't show up on the "overplayed FM rock songs" list says, you can check out anytime you'd like but you can never leave. So here's the last year I'm looking at, the year I turned 25. Here's the country #1 song I picked.
1985 (Country): How Blue - Reba McEntire
This may come as a surprise to a lot of people who know me. By and large, I don't like Reba McEntire's music. At all. I don't know why, she's just never appealed to me. In fact, her version of "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" sounds more rock than the Vicki Lawrence version from the 70s! (As Dale Watson sang, "rock and roll back in the 70s are country hits today.")
The notable exception is this song. It's superb. The harmonies are terrific. Everything about it is just what I wanted in an 80s country song, including the fact that it sounds country.
As usual, I'm in the minority. "Everybody" likes Reba...except me. At least I can say I like this song. A lot.
Thanks for reading.

My girlfriend likes her a lot. I don't mind her, but don't go out of my way to listen to her. I thought her TV show was pretty funny.

I am not on the Reba bandwagon.
