Counterfeit Money Found...

Okay.... I have been hesitant to post this, but I think I will anyway. In my search to find extra money...I came across a pretty decent wad of cash. At first glance... I thought maybe my luck has changed. There were $360 in my hand. But when I looked at the bills more carefully...they didn't look real. I mean.... They did, and they didn't. I am so broke, I don't even have a twenty in my possession, so I asked an elderly gentleman if I could compare his bill with mine, and he said yes. Even he believe my bills were real. But my gut said to check it out further. So... I had someone at Publix use that ink pen on one of the bills to see if it was real. And as I expected...it wasn't. Then when I arrived home, I did some research. My research confirmed they were not. One way was because all the serial numbers are the same. Then the watermark is visible to the eye, without holding it up the the light. Next...the 20 that is in gold (at the bottom right corner)...does not turn green when you tilt it. Plus...some of the bills have discoloration throughout. But... I have to tell you...unless you know what you are looking for...I could see where it would be hard to believe these bills were fake. I have found money tossed in the trash many times, before. The other day someone tossed $4. So...it does happen. Have to say that I was a little bit disappointed...though. Because the money would have taken care of the tires I need, and the rest of the rent. But I feel my whole life is a joke...and this is just one more reminder of it. Anyway... My thoughts are this... !. Was this a cruel joke that someone was trying to play on someone? Or... 2. Did someone get scammed; and was afraid to turn in the money, in fear that they would be accused of passing counterfeit money? I don't know... I believe I need to turn it in. Which according to what I read...it should be with the Secret Service, or a Police Officer. I have to admit...that I am a little bit afraid that they might accuse me of something, because I have so much of it. The research I did do...said not to handle the money. But at first...I did not know it was counterfeit, until much later. So now my fingerprints are all over them. I think the money needs to be turned in, so they might be able to trace it, and figure who is printing this stuff. Maybe the officials can look at the security camera, to see who put it in trash? The good news is...the trash was emptied about 20 minutes earlier, (because I saw the guy do it)...and I was there between 4-4:30 pm. So that is a small window to look at the security tape. My biggest fear... I will be escorted out in handcuffs. LOL So many innocent people get accused, before all the facts are in... What would you do if you were in my shoes? I really want to know...

I would bring the money to the police informing them where exactly I found the money, at which time of the day and which day.

If I am in doubt, I would go to a local bank and have the money checked. If they find it fake, I will report and give the money in.

i'd just turn it in to the cops, tell them where you found it. i seriously doubt you'd be arrested, because you're turning it in,not trying to use it. if anything you're letting them know they have a problem.

The police would do the rest (not arresting you or anything). Usually they look at the counterfeit money, checking the paper type, the ink, etc, and try to figure out where is the source (or the printer). They often have a vague idea already who involve in this sort of thing, you shouldn't worry too much. Your handing in would help the police locate the areas where the culprits' activity are.
