I´m living a nightmare.

Today I decided to clean part of my closet. And as I wanted to know what to take (if any) to the knee doctor, I started to throw away old tests and separate the others depending on the specialty of the doctors involved. I have been doing that for hours and although I have some folder with exams and tests and I have filled the garbage can with papers, I have a long way to go yet. As some of the tests and exams are in an alien language, I decided to read online about them, what did they mean and the normal values. I just read about the ß2 microglobulin also known as B2M (I know more about it now) and discovered that the values of my tests were all normal so I can throw away all the papers with the results. Now I will take some big folders with radiographies that are over my bed and I will take a nap. I deserve it. Do you clean such things once in a while?

We do not keep the medical records printed, the doctors give us a CD with all the data stored. It is a lot easier to bring with us in case a new doctor needs to check something and copy the files.

I also have CDs. But the blood tests come in paper.

@anikoonline I could print my sugar tests at home from my computer. There are only some tests that ask for the patient with an ID.

It is very modern. We can get our blood test via e-mail and I like this system because I don't have to go back to the hospital for the result. Unfortunately only a few hospitals offer this option.

@lovinangelsinstead21 We have to thank for our loss of memory. We would be too stressed if we remembered all those papers every day.

I´m still working on it. But I am looking at the amount of papers that I have thrown, rather than the amount of papers left to clean. I´m thinking positive

Yes, about once a year we clean out our paperwork, to sort out what should be kept. It's quite a job, figuring which ones need to be thrown out.

I had kept medical exams for ages, ever since I was diagnosed with cancer. Now I decided that if everything is in a computer, I can throw away part of it all.

@kobesbuddy I still have some papers that I will have to throw away from my late husband´s business, now that you mention it. Maybe that should be the next cleanup.

@marguicha We had two home businesses. There were papers from every dime that we ever made or investments we made in our businesses. At the end of the year, everything had to be organized, for income tax purposes. Now, we don't have either business, so most of the paper work is garbage. After ten years, it is just taking up shelf space.

Yes I clean papers and get rid of a lot if I can. I still have yet to organize them. Good for you for getting this done. It will feel better once you have. Too bad someone cannot lend a hand to you.

I lost a paper that I need. This prompted me to do this cleaning and assorting. But if I don´t find it by tomorrow morning, I´ll go to plan B.

It is probably because they are free. Leticia does not get a copy of her free tests and exams but she has all the ones she has paid for.

The term 'spring cleaning' doesn't exist for nothing. This is the time of year when one does things like that. I cleaned a window today which I hadn't cleaned for a year. :-)

Here we don´t do the sort of spring cleaning that countries with harsh winters and snow do. We have to clean floors and windoews every day almost as dust is part of our lives.

@MALUSE I live in a very polluted city. The city lies in a sort of hole between mountains. And the pollution from cars and industries smothers the city. Although it is forbidden to have fireplaces or to burn leaves, there is still more than enough to have something that is between smoke and fog.

@marguicha Where does the dust come from? Is there a desert nearby? Or do you always have strong winds?

Xrays are supposed to be harmful but we are told to take all the time. And then we have to discard them as it serves no purpose after a while. We go through documents and clothes once in a while, normally when we have to move. and that has not happened for years now - siva

A few years ago I collected all of my tests by the speciality of the illness (my bigger cathegories were the organs). It was a big job, but now it is much easier to get my medical portfolio and take the relevant tests to the doctor.

I had to do that last month when I was packing to move. I had so many garbage bags full of useless "stuff" that I had thrown out some of the things I wanted to keep...like my vitamins, my headphones and my puffers. :-D
