Why Do I Do This?

I have spent a good part of tonight exploring and staking out territory on a new social network, LiveDailyFeed. No ads, no data collection. Hardly any members yet. I don't have any idea how they plan to make money on it. I started a couple of topics (groups) and posted a bit and followed a few people I have never met. I'll see what happens. I have no idea if they have any rules or character limits. You can post photos and videos, but I haven't seen anyone post links to other sites yet. I can't even find the terms. I just have this thing about exploring new sites, I guess. There's no way to earn, but perhaps one can influence people there. We'll see. I'll give it a few weeks. If anyone want to join me in exploring it, I'm BarbRad there. I don't gain anything except your companionship if you join, but that would be nice. Do you like to explore new social networks? I do, but the main problems with them is they usually don't have many people to start with, and it takes people joining to get a site off the ground. It will be interesting to see what happens, if anything. I'm getting to the place that I hate Facebook because all the ads really slow it up. Besides myLot, what is your favorite place to just hang out and talk online?

I am happy with just mylot, though I have tried a few. Having a lot of sites to join in makes me confused as I have to remember them. I get forgetful sometimes. I have Facebook and Instagram and I am okay with those social networking sites. I also have other things to do offline. Mylot keeps me grounded. But In case, I would like to check the site and add you once I decide to join. Thanks, Barbara.

I have no idea where most of the people I see there are from, but it appears at least one is from California, like me. So far it appears that most people just post pictures.

@mlgen1037 Some do, some don't. I do. If other don't, I ask where the photos were taken. I'm taking what I've learned here on myLot to try to get more conversations going. It's tough to join a social network before you know anyone else there.

I'll agree with you there. People have real conversations here, but most people on social networks just want to trade memes and links and don't say much that's important to them personally. But there are exceptions.

I rarely join new sites. I spend most my time here at mylot but I do visit Facebook and Instagram fairly often each day as well.

@shaggin Facebook is so slow for me I can hardly stay with it. all kinds of messages from posts I've responded to pop up on the right, the feed stalls and won't move when I try to scroll, etc. It's no longer a fun experience, but a drag.Literally.

I did see you, but I didn't realize it was you. I usually don't follow until someone posts something. I talked then into opening a new category call PLACES. Why don't you go there and start a group topic, INDIA and post a photo or something interesting about your country? There will be a dropdown list for you to choose a Category. Choose PLACES. I'll go back and follow you. I just learned that the other categories I suggested will be implemented as soon as the college year is over, since many of the programmers for the site are finishing their year of studies. I have suggested hobbies, fine arts, Spiritual Life and Values, Occupations, Gardening, Blogging, Photography, and Books. What's your favorite topic?

This new site is mostly social -- no earning. I'm still exploring whether one can actually make friends there or whether everyone is just stumbling around in the dark trying to figure the site out.

There is no place that I have not tapped and even stuck to some earning good amounts. I am now on postloop, forum wheel and myLot. If you are not sure if they pay then what is your interest there?

I"m not always in it for the money. Facebook and Twitter don't pay me, but they do let me share the links to my blogs and network with my friends on other sites and from real life.

I don't really have a place that I hang out, the other sides are to earn cash, no talking there.

I also use Twitter, but I use each of the main social media as part of blog promotion. I wouldn't spend much time on them if I were not writing on various online sites and need to promote them.

I am sure the site will grow with more participation but non-earning sites may not be as attractive as the paying ones.

Quite right. And without many people on board and no one else you know, they aren't much fun yet, either.

The problem with someone started a new site is that it takes more than technology and a bright idea. Facebook and Twitter were started by people with a lot of friends who worked out the bugs together and used the site regularly before the public was invited to join them. So when the invitations went out, there were already people on those sites having interesting conversations with each other and they could be followed. It was also like having the doors to an exclusive club open so people rushed in. Anyone can start a site, but it takes a lot of people joining to get it off the ground, and a lot of capital from somewhere also helps a lot. Most new sites start on a shoestring without enough capital to get established and they don't have an interesting core group with enough people to invite to people a network. I site built for communication and networking needs lots of interesting people to network with -- not just a handful of the founders friends who have not provided much interesting content yet.

@bagarad I agree, it would be better to start a site with capital and people helping get it started and working out the bugs before the world joins in.

It should be better when they add the categories I suggested, but they have to wait until their programmers finish their college year. It would be fun to have someone I know there.

If you do look me up. I started a topic for nature and one for California. you will sort of have to feel your way around at first. The site really doesn't have any documentation. At least none that I've found. Strangely enough they only seem to spell a few things out on their Twitter feed.

Please do. I'm trying to decide whether to stick with it long enough to cash out or whether they will survive until then. The site is often down when I want to post and is agonizingly slow when I want to answer comments.
