Should high schools provide daycare services for students who have children?

United States

This is a topic that makes me think. If we have daycare services for students in high schools, it is like saying that if is very acceptable for high school students to be sexually active when they are not old enough to make proper decisions. It also encourages students to be sexually active if they are not already. On the other hand, if we do have daycare, more students may stay in school. What is the answer?

No, because it encourages teens to have babies outside wedlock.

with all due respect, some junior colleges, universities and such have day care and i dont see them having a high pregnancy rate. same with some high schools.

@Plethos That is a broad statement. That may be the case with some and not with others. Either way, I think it is cheaper for students to keep their minds on studies. It is not the responsibility of tax papers to pay for daycare due to children having chidren.

There is no excuse for teens to get knocked up today @MsBooklover . Besides stupidity. However it would be better for daycare in schools then to have the Grandmother get stuck with doing it.

No, because then it would promote more people to have kids when they're in highschool. Getting an education 8 hours and free daycare/child care for their children, why not start a family young!

I agree. It is just another way to tell kids they can have their cake and eat it.

You've got a good argument for both sides. With the way kids, primarily teens, are today, if they aren't sexually involved it's a miracle and they have good moral standards in their lives. However, that said, I think your argument for having day care services in schools is also valid - it keeps the children in school longer. If the daycare was provided by the students during their study periods, it would be good for both the child and the parent.

I presented both sides because they are both an option. If they are going to provide it, students should have to give up their study/free periods to do the babysitting.

well, would it be better for the young mother not to finish her education or to get her high school diploma? i honestly see no problem with it. most high school kids anyways have younger siblings so its not a big issue. daycare services would encourage the mother to continue with her education to provide for her child.

@MsBooklover - the program will only work if mother is either working or a student.

First of all, I don't think students should have children. As a student, you have to think about to prepair yourself for the life. But, as my opinion won't stop students having children as there are many factors involved like mistakes, violation and so on, of course it would be a help if those schools where students already have a kid would provide a day care service.

@MsBooklover There are ways to reduce it, but we never will be able to avoid it 100%ly.

I donĀ“t think that schools should have day care services but not because that would mean that it is acceptable or not to be sexually active. Teens are usually sexually active whether we like it or not. But there should be other instances that take care of kids besides the infants grandmothers or the school. The county, the city or other group in the place we live should help.

I think if I lived in the US I would be more worried about safety because of the shootings you get. I know they are not all the time but it would prey on my mind if I had a child in a creche in a school.

There are schools for pregnant moms in school to finish their studies and take care of their babies during their free hours and lunches. Its only for the girls and it teaches them how to stay in school and take care of the babies and how hard it will be. My grand daughters mom went to one of these schools and she didn't have her second baby until she was in her 30's because she realized how much she lost out on having one so early.

One option would be to introduce a childcare course into the school curriculum. That way students who had children could have them cared for, but also they and other students could be learning that looking after a child is not quite the same as playing with dolls.

It would be great to do before they starting getting pregnant in school.

For me, otherwise. It depends upon the situation. But we women should encourage young generation to deal with their studies first. Books before boys/babies.
