A Woman's Place (Genesis 2)

Genesis chapter 2 continues to chronicle the Biblical account of creation. The passage I like most from this chapter is verse 21. It reads, "So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the LORD God took out one of the man's ribs and closed up the opening." (NLT). It was from Adam's rib that woman was created. Did God include this detail just to impart factual information or is there a deeper meaning? I believe it is both. I am sure many of you have heard this explanation of Genesis 2:21 before, but it is beautiful, so I would like to share it again. Women was not created from a bone in Adam's head because the woman is not to usurp the man. She was not created from a bone in his feet because man is not to lord over her. She was created from his side because they are equal and suppose to work side by side in family and life. She was taken from a bone close to his heart because they are to love each other completely. She was taken from a bone underneath his arm because he is to shelter and protect her. What a beautiful picture of love. Whether that was God's actual intent, I don't know. But when one studies Scripture in its entirety, that is the picture God paints. His will was never for women to be treated as inferiors. Those were men's ideas. I love the fact that God gave commands for how husbands and wives are to interact. He is the greatest marriage counselor. I am blessed to have a husband who loves me. He gives me complete freedom to be myself. We work side by side in family and ministry. He treats me with the greatest respect. I would even say that he has spoiled me. Ladies, if you are single, don't settle for less than God's best.

Awesome! Thanks for this reminder @gnatsmom, and for sharing this as well so other will be blessed by this words as well. I am also a married woman. I am inspired by you shared life with your husband. My husband and I don't actually have a full same faith. But I believe that God is working on him up to this moment. I am praying for him to be a godly husband and father to our children, because I really want him to honor and glorify God with his life. Although he believes in Jesus, I want him to have this intimate relationship with Him that could change him.
