WrongSPELLING

Good Sunday afternoon to all. I will prepare myself for the 5PM schedule with my colleagues where we will meet in the city proper. Last Friday, a male student asked me if I can sign a letter addressed to the dean of the college of nursing for a certain special award on graduation day. I agreed; in fact, I requested him for that and he just verified it from me if I will sign. The award is for Clinical Efficiency. I also told the others who were very good in the area (IMCU) with no problems from them. The team leader of the third year students let me sign the letter, and so is one who is in my group-she is vying for top honor like CumLaude. I signed the 2 letters, but when I stared closely at my name, it was misspelled. What is printed was IGRID and not INGRID. I immediately told these 2 graduating students that they should make new letters with my name in correct spelling. These 2 students will be in my colleague’s house later at 5PM. They will have to ask the one colleague (Miss Cata) who signed ahead of me, to get her signature again. Is your name always spelled correctly by others?

It's annoying when people misspelled our name.

My real name is not hard to spell (ANNA), but I have seen members writing my name ANA, with one N only.

@ridingbet I think they only misspell the name, it's never okay to see your name not correctly spelled. There was an Anne.

@LadyDuck sometimes too, they think my family name is my first name. my surname ends with an A and a word ending in A means female, here in my country.

maybe these users think it is okay with you, since i believe you are the only ANNA here, or maybe there are others that i do not read?

Hope they get your name spelled correctly this time. People often ask if there are two letter 'L's in my name. Others misspell it as 'ALLAN' instead of 'ALLEN'.

Sabrina is more common than Sabina, so I usually get it spelled right. My surname is a different story, as Traverso is more common than Traversa so I often get that wrong. But I doubt "Igrid" even exists.

i am also addressed as "Ma'am B_ _ _" and the person thinks my surname is my first name and the Ingrid is my surname. o would always explain that Ingrid means daughter so no way it is my family name

@ridingbet How can they get that wrong, I wonder?! I had foreigners telling me my name didn't sound Italian, whatever that means. I wonder if that happened to you as well.

@sabtraversa that is true, in my case. even other nurses address me with Ingrid as the surname, and my surname is what they think is my first name.

@ridingbet they mispronounce my last name too. Actually I think I was the first person in my family to pronounce it right. My first name is always pronounced right.

@JESSY3236 hmm, that may be weird. the surname of those who are Americans are easy to pronounce, like our family names here.

Yes, I can relate totally. I have many versions of my names. Either wrong spelling or the order of my names are interchanged haha

right, if you have 2 or more first names. most probably, you are called by others with your 2nd or 3rd name.

@ridingbet Yes, Ingrid. I remember a time when a former landlady made a complaint against us because she said we owed her money (when in fact she was the one who owed us), she thought she knew my whole name and the proper order. She gave two names and in wrong order. I said that is not me. hahaha

my real name, yes. my nickname i usually spell out. i agree with what you did. everything should be correct, accurate and presentable - dates, names, positions, spelling, words, amounts, etc - for all official documents.

the letter is considered a legal school document so i believe there should be no wrong spelling of names.

It's just one of those inconveniences that just wasn't necessary to deal with. NO matter how much they work, there's still some level of negligence somewhere.

i don't think that inconvenience is not necessary to deal with. it is my name that is misspelled. what if i deny i am the person because of the wrong spelling?

the ENYI is your real name therefore? i think if it is so, then i would still err with the spelling if it is pronounced differently
