A few years ago I had some swimming lessons, everything was going well but one day I almost drowned during one of my lessons. It was so scary that I gave up of my swimming lessons and I only know how to swim on my back. Now I feel panic when I am in the water and I don't feel the ground under my feet.
I decided that my kids should have swimming lessons because I think it is extremelly important know how to swim. They are having lessons for 4 years now and they swim like a fish. I feel a sort of relief seeing this.
This is a picture of my daughter swimming lessons, she is the one sit in the pool border.
Do you know how to swim? Have you ever had swimming lessons?

I learned to swim at school in freezing cold water when I was 12. My own children both swim, they taught themselves and my granddaughter had swimming lessons and is now confident in deep water. It's good that you are doing lessons for your daughter, They can be expensive but they are worth it.

@nela13 Yes my sister cannot swim and is too afraid to try adult swimming classes although I have tried to persuade her.

I am the director for all our city's public swimming pools. Not only do I manage the pools, but I teach swim lessons as well, and swim on a daily basis. I am sorry to hear you had a very frightful experience in the water, but glad that you feel it is very important for your children to learn how to swim!

@nela13 I hope you decide to go back and give it a try again! Swimming is so important to know, even if it is just the basics to help keep you safe! Just remember this: water is naturally buoyant, it wants to keep you afloat! As we tell the adults in our swim lesson classes: water is your friend! Water wants to help you, but when you fight it, that's when it stops being your friend. So remember, just be relaxed when you are in the water and let water be your friend and help keep you afloat!

Nope. I really don't swim. One time I learned how to... but completely forget it since I don't usually swim. But last year I almost drowned in a pool, no one sees that I was under the rubber boat that was so heavy, I can't go up because my lifevest's buckle was stuck , luckily someone from my officemates notice that I was missing... and they started to panic and lift the kayak. I thought it was my time... hehehe..

When I still live in a tropical country, I swim on a weekly basis. Now I am in a cold country....I am covered with jackets. Maybe if there is a hotspring of warm pool I may swim again.

I ha been swimming since I was a small child. I used to swim like a fish. I have not been swimming for years. No doubt I could still swim and I love it. Yes, I had proper life guard lessons when I was a young one at 12 yrs but was swimming long before that.
Nice photo Sorry you got scared..give it another try.

I remember my swimming lessons back in preschool. It was fun because I get to be with my brother and cousin. I studied for during summer for two years.
By the way, your daughter is a lovely girl, Manuela.

I never had swimming lessons as we had a pool in our backyard when I was growing up. I think I was 7 or 8 when we got the pool put in the ground but I already knew how to swim then. When I had my first child I had her in the water when she was a few months old. I saw a tv show on that said babies learn how to swim fast so my mom and I started teaching her before she was a year old. Both my kids and grandsons are great swimmers and divers. My dad was swimming in his 90's. We were a big swimming family. My daughter was on the swim team when she was about 4 -10 years old.

I know how to swim but not very well since I have problems with my shoulders and ankles...and knees. Just all my joints haha! I love being in the water though, I like to sitting by the wall and feeling like a mermaid just hanging out haha

I was also very eager and determined in my teen age to do the swimming. But once I started to learn with a trainer I felt so scary and withdrew myself instantly. I have never tried after that. I don't want to be beaten by water.
