Hi Everyone..Hope all are enjoying weekend.
I would like to share a picture of our garden. So many friends here asking about bitter gourd. We are growing it in our garden, actually I don't like it's taste,@Kavinitu you have asked to send some so this is for you special. It's very bitter in taste and we usually remove the seeds and add spices, besan flour, salt and fry it.
To take this picture I was searching it lol it's hiding behind the hibiscus flower plant .I hope you can see it clearly.
Do you want to taste bitter gourd?.Have you eaten it?.if you like to taste this is for you.. Enjoy your weekend friends :)

That's a very healthy vegetable. I don't eat it too when i was younger. But there are ways to make the taste better. You can sliced it very thin across, then wash with water and a little salt. You can saute and put meat and when meat is tender you can add it and don't over cook. The vegetable can be cooked in five-7 mins time and just before it's done put a beaten egg and surely it will taste better.

That is a wonderful picture you have taken! Yes i too never liked bitter gourd, because of its bitterness! but here people they add salt and water after cutting gourd into small pieces and e keep it in freeze over night. Next day after removing the salt water they rinse the pices with fresh water and dry before frying them with required spices! This way these gourds don't taste that bitter! Thanks dear @Icydoll!

I can understand why you have missed the bitter gourd! Here in India they believe that is having some medicinal value as it is very very bitter, so some people consume it on regular basis. it is given to children as a de-wormer and diabetic patients are big fan of this vegetable @JudyEv! Thanks!

You have a beautiful garden, I use to hate bitter gourd or bitter melon when I was young but it's now part of my basic diet, it's known to control blood sugar. We put bitter gourd tops in our mung beans.
I love a Chinese, Spanish, Filipino dish called " Ampalaya con carne " ( bitter gourd is ampalaya in tagalog), I order it most of the time in a high end Chinese restaurant but we also cook it at home. It's rich in iron and would give you healthy blood and help fight anemia.

@Icydoll we sometimes cook it with shrimp, coconut milk, okra, string beans, eggplant and squash, sliced and tossed altogether in a pot.

It’s good for health but too bitter, I can eat it sometimes, but I don't like it very much.

I've never seen or tasted the bitter gourd before.
It has an interesting shape and yes, I would taste it.
I like some bitterness, not too much of it anyway.

Now I know what it is - I used to eat it as a child and my mom loves it whenever we can find it in the store. We called it Karila and the stores refer to it as bitter melon.
