My young friend's first jam session

A music friend came over the other day and we jammed out a few songs we do with our band. My young neighbor friend happened to be here, and we showed my adult friend the version of "The Pirate Song" that we do. Then he went home and got his plastic recorder (I think he calls it a "flute) and we did "Hot Cross Buns" and a couple of other kid classics with me and my buddy accompanying him. My young friend, at age nine, has now been introduced into the world of "jammin' with your music buddies"! I hope it becomes a part of his life.

Handsome, smart, musical, and mathematical. Also athletic. Hmm. Can an immigrant kid make it America? I think so.

Helping a young one to appreciate music is a great thing and the younger they are it seems the easier it is to learn instruments.

Yep. Music is a language, and all languages are easier to learn when you're younger.

I have invited my young friend and his mom to our gig tonight. But for some reason, they never show up.

I am sure it will. He might become a regular member of your own sessions.

He's at just the right age for learning the recorder.

Yep. We've been singing together for over two years. He's noodled on my guitar and mandolin but hasn't learned chords yet.

Young kids usually like music and hope he gets to continue his interest in music as he gets older.

We have a great time together. I want him to have more friends his own age, but he hangs out with adults (his mom and me) a lot.
