Our Intentions Matter

Journey of life

We go about life with a purpose and the most basic is to make a living. We are soon on our own and have to survive and own up to our actions or lack thereof. I have had many a setback and also found what I had relied on was on shaky foundations. I have to move on seeking new pastures, and at times, cutting my losses. I don’t regret the path I have taken as my intentions were always honorable but the realities were not under my control. The only certainty is the uncertainty inherent in our lives that also influences people who matter to us. Life is a journey and there is no destination. We board the bus of life for a while and soon our turn will come to disembark. We meet all types of people to make our journey worthwhile. I soothe myself with a take my journey is destined and will add value to the whole creative process. We do leave our indelible marks to show we have passed this way. We have to play our own part and when our intentions are above board we have nothing to fear; then no failures or regret. What is your general take on life? How do you overcome the temporary setbacks? Image from Pixabay: Intention

I do not have such calmness as you have, even though I am quite old. I wish I was as wise. One of Bill Gates' quotes sums it up for me "Life is not fair. Get used to it." So expecting fairness, which is taught to us from childhood, is soon being pushed out of life. What is it making me? Somebody who does not trust anybody. So somebody who cannot care either? Perhaps. That is how I see me now.

@Shiva49 Yeah, if we don't do wrong, we are right always. What more do we need to do really.

@Shiva49 Great advice siva. We must always press on, and by doing so, new avenues, new possibilities, new windows will always open for us one way or the other. As you say, our own light is always moving towards burning brighter, it can never really dim. At all times, it is increasing in its size, by our continuing experiences in the fires of life.

I understand Vanny. My outlook is I am responsible for my actions and I give that freedom to others too. Let my good intentions not be thwarted by others to an extent I give in to join their bandwagon. We are dealt some cards and we have to play them as well and fairly as we can. Press on and when there is uncompromising darkness the light we shine will be brighter. That is what I do - siva

Like you, Siva, I believe that life is a journey and along the way, we experience challenges and trials. It is with those setbacks that we learn to appreciate life and ourselves. For me, my life is imperfect and I am with it. Few regrets, and a lot of heartbreaks but it sure made me the strong person that I am now. And it made me all the more grateful. I also learned to value simplicity and character.

Personally, I have a minimalist approach to my needs - buy what I need, and be aware they are available for use. I also take a view to giving more than I take in every way. Also, let others be happier than me so that some of it will be passed on to me! It is better than others being unhappy - siva

@Shiva49 Yes, I like being minimalist too. I do not ask for much. I like your way thinking, Siva. You have a point. It is only necessary that we think of others, just make sure not to forget ourselves. We need to take care of ourselves to be able to help others.

We can be hit with setback but winners don't quit. I am the cockroach that cannot be killed. In history, there is a man who loses 99 battle with his arch rival. In the last battle, he managed to defeat his enemy, forced the guy to kill himself. He ended up becoming the first emperor of Han dynasty.

If it comes to the crunch, I will fight back against the wall. Of course, I will ponder whether it is worth fighting for from time to time as it may be worth cutting the losses at some point in time. We can make a tactical withdrawal, lose some battles, to win the war like the Han dynasty emperor - siva

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Setbacks happen, but they shouldn't ruin your goals or happiness. Such is life for us all.

That comment reminds me of what I had read: Thomas Edison's teachers said he was "too stupid to learn anything." He was fired from his first two jobs for being "non-productive." As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, "How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?" Edison replied, "I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps." - siva

Everyone comes across setbacks along the way. It's how you deal with them that matters.

Yes, everything happens for a purpose and it is for us to draw the lessons and move on with a positive attitude. Thankfully, we can look ahead as the days of bonded labour are long gone - siva

Our roots go much deeper, than what we might imagine them to do so!
A lot of people might agree with you that life has no discernible destination. You seem reconciled to accepting that, but there is an element of you that I feel is giving up to what it suspects is a lost cause there too, in that it seems to me that you think that the answers will never be all forthcoming. To me, any answer is not an answer until they are our own answers, and so the hard times, and troubles, are not our troubles and hard times either, until we own them. The truth is then, I would say, that we are both participant and observer at one and the same time, and so believing this to be so, we must trust that the answers (indwelling or inbuilt) in ourselves will come out to meet us at the right time, even as our inner and outer selves get closer, by each experience of life bringing them more into alignment, but not equally so, because one is merely a shadow of the other. The God-self or soul creates the outer self, which becomes autonomously operating, until it feels for real that the real giant within life becomes life when the real life lives in you, and you stop trying to be that life instead. Life must join to life to be real to you. We must feel its oneness, of which we are merely a part, until we do so. Photo Credit: The photo used here comes from the free media site: Wikimedia Commons. @Shiva49 All of our problems with our physical existence come about from our ignoring our higher self though, I would say. It is hard to know if we are really taken away, against our wishes. Maybe some part of us has sold us into slavery like this for some reason. It is said that our soul chooses a lot of stuff about its coming life, if that idea is correct. Yes, you are referring more to our physical existence and trying to see why we do not have the helicopter view from that position. I try to ignore the physical, because I feel that it cannot be as important as what is going on behind the scenes. I try to ride that helicopter now, and I try to talk to the pilot of it too...LOL.... I suppose, really though, we are both in the dark, (albeit, our own form of darkness) clutching at our own different straws, though, just the same. (i.e I guess both of us don't really know anything much for certain) I hope you are right, and that the journey does really continue for us all.

@Shiva49 Such short lives would certainly seem to be largely meaningless from our view of it from here. Is meaning dependant on continuity, continuousness, then, or can it be found in the moment too? Do these short lives have meaning, then, or not? Here is my answer to this. Everything has its meaning in the moment of itself, but connecting the moments together to see a greater meaning is often hard if there do not seem to be enough connecting points to be found. All has meaning though, otherwise, it would, or not could not, happen.

@innertalks There should be a higher purpose other than mere existence here. Some babies are born but leave after having just a glimpse of life here. Will their souls be at rest? Some are born but their mothers depart before they come to know what mother's love is. Without continuity, such lives are meaningless even if we argue that it is due to past karma or that God has a higher purpose for them. So logically, there should be a no end or a new opening the moment the door closes here. Of course, our physical covering is no use "the other side". I believe our creator will see to it that we have a seamless transfer but will not reveal his cards yet. We may be given a remote control to help those in need by way of dreams, who they meet etc - siva
